1. Flexibility & control
It's true, I don't do much blog designing and Blogger is working fine for me at the moment with it's basic easy-to-use templates, widgets and stuff but having my own domain name gives me the flexibility and control that owning a sub-domain under Blogger or Wordpress doesn't. If ever I violate any of their service policies, they have the right to suspend my blog account. Gone is my past hard work then!
The boy bought Sakuraharuka.com via Blogger for convenience {it's hosted with GoDaddy.com but they immediately help with the blog transition w/o me handling difficult html codes} so I'm not sure if Blogger still owns part of my blog. Can somebody enlighten me on this? I do think that even if I want to change hosting services and keep my domain name, I'm still able to since domain names are portable. My plan is just to monitor the next yr and see how things progress. I might move to a Singapore-based hosting service eventually.
2. Greater branding
It is more credible {and memorable} to market Sakuraharuka.com rather than Sakuraharuka.blogspot.com, I think. If I do become a more serious blogger or diversify into other businesses whereby I want to use Sakura Haruka as a brand, my own domain name will give a more "professional" feel, plus it's easier to promote and share with others. Also, the boy highlighted that it's important to start as early as possible since you are already leaving footprints all over the internet from Day 1.
3. Sense of ownership
Yes, I own this now. It belongs to me, and just like everything else, I want to do it to the best of my ability. I'm inspired to work harder at this and build an empire for myself!! Muaahhahhaha :P {0k, maybe building an empire is too much.. but I'm inspired for sure}
So thanks once again hubby~ Love you!! 永遠に、愛してる。
Which hosting service are you using & what made you decide to register for a domain name? Or why haven't you?

Thanks for reminding me of why I need to take this next step. Congratulations Ai.
That is so great and exciting. It is so wonderful that your husband is so supportive of your blogging! Now your possibilities are so much greater!
Congratulations! That was such a lovely gift from your hubby. Mine bought me the domain name some time ago too but not being sure where I was going with it all, I have remained using the free Wordpress site (not even self-hosted yet). Not sure if/when I'm going to move.
Congrats! I use GoDaddy too, and I love it! There is great flexibility! I love that your hubby supports you so fully!
Thanks for linking up with Thoughtful Thursday! Following you now~

I started out on Wordpress with a .com.au address hosted by a company based here in Australia.
I subscribed my hubby to my emails too ;)
Hooray Ai! Congratulations :)
Congrats! that's an awesome pressie. My domain is on GoDaddy as well but I have no idea how it works.
Congratulations!!! I recently got my own domain and self-hosted site and it feels so good!
I'm with Little Hero Hosting - the service is impeccable and I love knowing that my blog is backed up on their server, safe and sound.
So exciting to get your name! I've got mine, but I really have no idea what has changed apart from the URL.
I'm actually in the process of making the move to self hosted word press; I like the design possibilties, and also that everything is then mine. It bothers me a little that technically blogger owns all my work.
Congrats Ai! That's such a wonderful gift from your hubs. He's really supportive of you! As for me, the lazy blogger, I'm happy using Blogspot for now...hehehe.
Yes actually other than the name, I don't feel anything has changed haha. Oh well.. Step by step :p
I tried using Wordpress before and after so many years on Blogger, I still prefer Blogger's simplicity heh. I'm really such a tech idiot.
I have been thinking about this for a while. I'm not sure if I am ready to take the plunge yet.
Congrats!!
I have thought of this as well, but I don't think I have the time to invest it it right now. I use blogger. I am your newest follower and would love for yo to follow me back!
