Singapore Blog Awards 2012 | Best Family Blog Finalist E-interview #SBA2012

In case you haven't heard, I am one of the top 10 finalist for Best Family Blog category of Singapore Blog Awards 2012!

Just to give you some background, it is a very prestigious annual blog awards organised by, a bilingual news & interactive web portal by Singapore Press Holdings {SPH}. The Singapore Blog Awards honour bloggers who devote much time and energy to regularly maintain informative and interesting blogs. There are many different categories to enter in like Family, Lifestyle, Food, Fashion etc.

Here are my answers to an E-inteview by to let you know more about me, and perhaps encourage you to vote and support me :)

1. How do you feel about being one of the finalists in Singapore Blog Awards 2012?
Truly thankful, and still in shock! I received the news the day before my birthday and it really was a great birthday present haha

Sakura Haruka was started in June 2011 and am very appreciative to see how it has grown over the past year. It really is such an honour to be a finalist in this prestigious awards. The award is not a destination in my blogging journey, but it certainly is an important milestone for recognition, and encouragement to keep going on.

2. When did you start blogging and what drew you to it? Where do you get inspiration for your blog content?
I began blogging regularly around 2006 as I was living overseas away from family. It started out as a way for me to keep in contact with them, and for me to jot down my memories {good and bad}. Slowly, just as my life evolved from a single lady to a blushing bride and now a doting young mother, so has my blog content.

I write from the heart, and from my personal experiences. It is my story that I am telling on Sakura Haruka... lovingly shared with my readers and in a way kept like a time capsule for my children to read when they are older.

3. How do you feel about the other Finalists in your category? How do you think you will fare compared to them?
First and foremost, I think the other finalists are amazing parents. It takes a certain commitment to write regularly on your kids and to care enough to help other parents with your experiences. Secondly, they are all very creative bloggers and I love the individual style portrayed through their writing and blog designs.

I don't know how I will fare against them, but I do know that I already feel like a winner to be among the top parenting bloggers in Singapore. I try to not live in comparison. My journey is my journey, and the only person I should try to be better than, is the person I was yesterday.

4. Give a reason why readers should visit your blog and vote for you?
I believe individuality does not end after motherhood. When you have children, your lives revolve around them, but that does not mean that you give up on yourself as a person. I am a person with many passions in life - travel, food, fashion, health, photography etc. Sakura Haruka is about sharing information, ideas & inspirations to show how these passions can exist in a family setting, and to encourage readers to live a fulfilling life.

My blog is the true story of a mother trying to impart this beautiful love for life to her daughter. If you appreciate this value, you are welcome to stay with us on our journey and support by voting.

Crash Test Mummy: thank you Laney! it's taken me a while to realise that this is the way to live :) comparing lives just means your happiness lies in others' hands, and not your own.

Yujin: thanks! hope you are enjoying the lovely Spring!

Brandi: thanks for your encouragement!

I agree that it is SO important not to lose yourself when you become a mother. What happens when the kids fly the nest? Us mama's have to keep ourselves strong and be awesome role models for our kids.

Congrats Ai! So true on the commitment part. Imagine doing a blog entry at 2 am in the morning as it is the only 'free' time :)
Good luck!
