Singapore Blog Awards 2012 | My Supermum Outfit #SBA2012

Last weekend was the Singapore Blog Awards and I shared some memories of it here. As mentioned, the event theme was "Superheroes" and few bloggers did go in costume. Actually, I was too... as a Supermum :)

Searching online, I found that many articles defined a Supermum as "a woman who performs the traditional duties of housekeeping and child-rearing while also having a full-time job".

However, I find that to be rather one-dimensional. How about the rest of the mothers that aren't working full-time, but also have to juggle so many other activities & roles outside of the "expected" household duties? What is "expected" anyway? Ambiguous, much?

Anyway, I think any mum that survives conquers motherhood and manages to shape the future of our world with the exemplary upbringing of her children is a Supermum. And she doesn't need a costume to show it.

First off, I got my hair curled at a salon near home since I didn't have time to go to Berne's. It was my first time there and thank goodness it turned out all right! ;p

My pink sparkly nails to go with my dress :) I'll let you in one of my Supermum secrets... I haven't kept my fingernails long since Lil Pumpkin's birth because it just isn't practical when taking care of a young child. So, I use stick-on nails when I need them fancy ;p

They really save me a lot of time too! I don't need to spend ages at the nail salon to get them done {actually I just need 10 minutes and I do them in the car} plus they are so inexpensive & last at least a day. I usually have a few boxes at hand and they do come in pretty gorgeous designs with gems and nail deco, like they were done at the salons. People can hardly tell they are just quick stick-ons ^^V

My lovely dress.... Oooo it was love at first sight! I adore the sweet frills at the top and soft pink tutu skirt. It's such a unique piece and reminds me a lot of Carrie from SATC. I named this dress Carrie after her :P

I don't think wearing puke-stained clothes means that you are a better mum, nor do I think that staying stylish and taking time to dress up makes one a bad mother. Clothes are just accessories, and has no bearings on how good a mother is.

If you are looking for other fashion blogs written by Supermums that navigate through motherhood in vogue, have a look at oomph and Karen Cheng :)

And here are other Supermums that remind us what is good about being a mum. Many thanks to Laney for compiling this beautiful video and for letting me be a part of it. It's the second time I'm in an all-stars blog collaboration video and I wish I had better video-editing skills to make one too!

I Blog on Tues with Diary of a SAHM. What do you think makes a Supermum?

Absolutely LOVE that dress! You are always so fashionable and wear everything so well! I agree about the nails, when you have little kids, it's just too hard to keep up with long ones. Mine are short lol. You are definitely a Supermummy!
