Little Girls Hairstyles: Coloured Hair Extensions {Braided}

Hair-chalking is a really fun way to add colours to your hair non-permanently, but if you don't want to mess with chalk dust,  try out hair extensions! It's rather inexpensive {in Singapore at least} and is a safe way to add some length, volume and colour without any damage to the hair.

For hair extensions, you can choose either clip-ons or to have them "permanently" attached to your hair. The clip-ons are great for kids when they have strict school rules to follow, but want to have some fun and beautify their hair during parties or the school hols. They are easily found at fashion accessories shops like Sinma or Chameleon.

"Permanent" hair extensions actually last for about 3-4 months only, and 2 common ways to attach it are by braiding or fusing to the natural hair with hot glue. I made sure that the shop braided in the hair extensions as it is easier to remove that way. All you need to do is to snip at the small rubber band holding the extension to the hair. You don't need to go back to the salon or cut away the hair to remove the extensions :P

I've had hair extensions done before and know that it isn't painful to get it done. Even young kids can take care of it if it's just a few attached. Having a whole head or half head full of hair attachments will be too much maintainence for the kids, not to mention uncomfortable!

The shop assistant just took 10 minutes to attach 2 bundles of pink hair. Quick and easy!

Ta-dah! Lil Pumpkin with her shocking pink hair highlights heehee

Easy care tips:
  • Use a gentle shampoo at least once a week.
  • Be careful at the roots area where the hair extensions are attached. Rub gently, and always wash hair in a downward motion to avoid tangling.
  • Try not to use hot irons to style hair extensions {unless they are 100% human hair}. It will shorten the life span due to the heat.
  • Braid your hair or tie in a pony tail when sleeping to prevent tangling when you sleep.
By the way, I'm not encouraging Lil Pumpkin to be vain when I play dress-ups with her or style her hair. No, I'm just encouraging her to have fun and be creative! I don't tell her like "oh, you must be all girly and like pink" or "only pretty girls have long hair". The boy and I have a very open parenting style and we let Lil Pumpkin grow to express herself however she likes, within some boundaries, of course. If one day she wants to wear a pirate-costume everyday, so be it.

But for now, she loves to be a sweet little princess {sometimes mermaid}, like so many little girls out there. And who am I to stop her from dreaming and being happy?

That is so cool! I don't see anything wrong with that sort of thing, I remember we used to get coloured hairspray all the time and put 'streaks' in our hair, I would have loved to get some sweet extensions like that. It's all about having fun and I must say I am looking forward to doing Fun stuff like this with Mia if she is interested when she gets older.
