Laneige Beauty and Makeup Tips | Korean Stars Secrets

I attended Laneige's Makeup Atelier Session yesterday at Fairmont Hotel and discovered a few beauty tips which I will share later in the post. I've actually never used Laneige before and after the workshop, I seriously questioned why. Laneige is a premium Korean beauty brand that is celebrated for its signature Water Bank skincare range. It believes that properly hydrated skin is the fundamentals of beautiful skin and has always focused on helping users achieve hydrated, healthy and radiant skin.

I suffer from dry skin, and it doesn't help that I spend most of my days in the air-conditioned office. Laneige Water Bank skincare range intensively circulates moisture deep within the skin around the clock while enhancing the skin cells for increased moisture retention. It also helps with damaged skin cells and restores them to plump, healthy condition. Sounds great for me!!!

The workshop was hosted by Yuji, a Hong Kong make-up artist for Laneige. We tried various Laneige products, which all have Water Bank non-stop moisturisation properties by the way, learnt how to properly prep the skin before make-up and Korean make-up beauty secrets :)

Yuji and me, after the workshop. Gosh, he has such good skin!!! *envious*

Met some other pretty mummies there too - Mad and Ruth!
Also caught up with Lynn. We met at the Singapore Flyer Sky-Land-Sea Adventure and so sad that she's moving back to Australia soon! Keep in touch dear!

Here are some beauty tips that Korean Hallyu stars use that I learnt yesterday:

1. Skin ESTEEM Regime
- to follow these few steps when you want to prep your skin before make-up, or before sleep.
- ESTEEM stands for
Eye: warm up product and gently massage around eyes with ring finger for less pressure
Soap: cleanse with a gentle product
Toner: to refine pores & cleanse away remaining dirt
Emulsion: acts as a skin softener & helps other products to be absorbed better
Essence: powerful treatment product for deep layers
Moisturiser: locks moisture on surface of skin

It does seem like a lot of steps, but these are recommended for proper preparation and care for your skin. No wonder people say beautiful women are not lazy women hahaha :P I know many of us don't have the time to complete all these steps {especially in the morning rush!!} so I guess the most important would be the 3 usual Soap, Toner and Moisturiser.

2. Applying a base
BB creams are so hot and it's no wonder that Laneige Snow BB Soothing Cushion product has already won 2 awards since its launch early this year! It was recommended to use this as a base and to apply 1-2 layer of it over the entire face in an upward motion. Laneige Snow BB Soothing Cushion is gentle enough to be applied around the eye area too. To avoid the "caked" make-up effect, use your baby finger to apply over blemishes or areas that need more coverage, instead of applying another layer.

3. Eye make-up
Laniege eye shadow palettes are all colour co-ordinated. Just apply a lighter colour to the whole of your eye socket, then apply the darker colour to half of your eye socket. Blend with the lighter colour. This is a very easy way to apply eye colour suitable for day or office looks.

4. Curling the eyelashes
Look down and place the curler at the root of the eyelash and gently press. Then, gently lift the curler in an upward motion and move from the root, to the middle to the end of the eyelash. You should also move from the inner corner, to the middle then to the outer corner of the eye to curl the whole eyelash.

5. Applying the mascara
It is recommended to curl your eyelashes before using the mascara. When applying the mascara, start from the root of the eyelash again and work outwards. For a more dramatic look, apply on lower eyelashes too.

6. Eyebrow make-up
Try to match your eyebrow colour to your hair colour for a more natural look. I actually dyed my hair red last Friday so Yuji said I can colour my eyebrows to a dark brown since red isn't a common colour heh. Shape your eyebrows and gently fill it in with light strokes. After you are done, use a Q-tip and gently blend and draw down from inner eyebrow to your nose-bridge to shape that area.

7. Highlighting your face
You don't actually have to buy highlighting powder! A neat trick I learnt here was just to use white eye shadow powder and dust lightly to T-zone, under the eyes, middle of chin and cupid's bow.

8. Gradient lips make-up
This was my favourite tip of the day - how to apply and get that innocent "bitten lips" look. Firstly, cover your lips with a base and/or nude lipstick. Then apply a stronger lip colour just to the middle of the upper and lower lips. Very important to just apply to that area! Next, apply lip gloss just to the middle lip areas too. Last part is to apply lip balm {or gloss} to the edges of your lips. It's a very pretty effect and I recommend everyone to try it! I'll touch more on this in another post later.

9. Cheeks colour
Instead of the usual smile and apply blush to cheekbones method, apply it in a reverse "S" shape starting from the top side of your forehead, then the cheeks {emphasize this area} and finally down your jaw bones. It's more natural and fresh.

Hope you like these beauty and make-up tips! If you have others to share, please let me know :) Laneige is opening a new flagship boutique store at ION come 5 September, so if you want to Be Waterful, head down there to get some great hydrating skin products!

* Disclosure: The event coverage was due to an invitation from Laneige Singapore for Laneige's Makeup Atelier Session. No monetary compensation was received, and all opinions are my own.

Looks great Ai! Oh btw I used to always dye my hair red too. Wahaha. Love red! And it turns brown when it fades so you have a 'new' colour. =) Thanks for sharing! Love the lip tips too!

Ruth: wanted to write it down properly before I forgot haha

Summer: yup I dyed my hair red a few times before too. Love the vibrancy but pity it drops colour pretty fast too!

I'm a fan of their Laneige's water bank products and have been using it for about 3 years. I do love the bouncy feeling you get when you wake up as it gives a boost of moisture to the skin. I love the highlighting technique but can hardly find the time to do it when I'm rushing to get out of the house every morning. So how long do these 9 steps take?

Great tips! Though I am secretly scared of the eye lash curler lol. A tip I learned a lot time ago for applying mascara- hold a compact under your chin and look down as you are applying. It keeps it from whacking your eye lid and making a mess.

San: yup will let u know when the post is up.

Susan: I'd say around 1-1.5 hrs. Prob less as you "practice" more and more heh

Theresa: Great tip! thanks for sharing. I like that actually as looking up all the time causes more forehead wrinkles I feel haha

Madeline: thanks! see u again soon :)
