BAPE x Transformers 3D Street Mural by Ben Qwek

The latest BAPE x Transformers collaboration was released in Singapore on Fri 26 Oct 2012 and to commemorate the event, a 3D street art mural by local contemporary artist Ben Qwek was commissioned  below their store at Mandarin Gallery. Don't you think 3D art is pretty mind-blowing???

The first time we came across huge 3D optical illusion pieces was at Changi Airport when we left for our Hong Kong trip. I'm not sure if it is still there, but the world's greatest 3D artist, Kurt Wenner, created a huge 9m by 9m 3D mural for Changi Airport's "Be a Millionaire" promotion at Terminal 3. Really amazing stuff!

Hubby's a big BAPE fan so we dropped by while we were in town over the weekend to take some photos. There's a red chain around the artwork so I asked Mel {she does marketing for the brand} "why??!" She said they just didn't want people to walk over the artwork but people are free to enter the area to pose and interact with! Yay!

If I'm not wrong, the huge mural is a pre-drawn print which makes it more durable than actually being painted on the pavement. People can lie, sit or do whatever crazy poses on it without destroying it much. But still, just be gentle ya? :P

Careful! Don't drop over the railings :P

In the palms of Transformers! More than meets the eye...

The boys got in the fun too :)

Sorry the 3D effect wasn't captured very well. We took these just with our smartphones heh.. Head on down to take some cool photos with these if you are in Orchard Road. It will be there until Wed 7 Nov 2012. I'd like to see your creative poses so share them with me on my Facebook page, ya?

I Blog on Tues with Diary of a SAHM. Check out other posts on the boy's BAPE obsession.

I think you've captured them perfectly, Ai! Love 3D art. I've seen some amazing ones on Tumblr and stuff but nothing like actually being "in it" yourself.

I LOVE 3D art, it's so cool! We actually have a book about Wenner at work called Asphalt Renaissance and I remember when the stock arrived nobody got any work done for like an hour because we were all too busy looking through it! It's just mind blowing how they do it. Dave loves it so much that he has watched YouTube tutorials on how to create your own 3D drawings and has spent many an hour trying to do his own!

These pics were so trippy. I was trying to work out if you were actually on an angle or not.
I've never seen 3d art before. Wish I could just pop down and visit it. ;)
