Her First Preschool Sports Day

Since Lil Pumpkin started preschool, she's had many "firsts". Last Sat morning, she attended her preschool's inaugural Sports Day to promote healthy living and also provide a wonderful opportunity for families to bond with their kids. The boy took leave from work to attend the Sports Day with us, and it was also great to see so many other families there too, even though it was not a compulsory school event. A good thing too because the teachers & staff were very enthusiastic about the Sports Day and put in a lot of effort in planning the activities!

The Sports Day was at Toa Payoh Town Park. I've been to Toa Payoh many times but this was my first time at the small park. It doesn't have many features except for a large pond {where Lil Pumpkin spotted a dead frog!}, a looking tower that was closed, and a few running paths. The only pavilion there provided much-needed shade for the participants to rest and relax while waiting for their games.

It was a really hot sunny day. We were tired out more so from the weather, than the actual games! The kids had so much fun though! This is Lil Pumpkin playing one of her class games :) She was actually still munching on biscuits just before her turn, and is still holding on to her biscuit on one hand haha

After the kids had their class games, there were the parents-kids race. Lil Pumpkin played this with her daddy :)

Aim of the game was to race and try to fill up this bottle with water from cups filled by the parents and kids.

Run run as fast as you can!! 頑張って~!

Many thanks to the teachers and staff for taking time out of their usual busy schedule to encourage parents to be more involved in the kids' school life, and to have better home-school partnership! I'm actually glad that the focus of this Sports Day wasn't about winning or prizes {only participation door gifts were given out}, but more on quality time spent bonding with the kids under the sun, and getting to know the teachers more outside the school compound. There's really more to sports than just getting a trophy.

What's the focus for your kids' school Sports Days?
Health, home-school relationship or prizes?

I Blog on Tues with Diary of a SAHM. Read more on Lil Pumpkin's preschool experience here.

What a great day - so glad she enjoyed her first sports day and that the focus was on participation rather than winning. I hope she enjoys many more occasions with the school.

Looks like a fab day. At my daughter's first sports carnival she won the running race - the marker fired a little gun - all the kids jumped and looked at their parents - i just yelled run!!! which she did - the rest followed once they knew what to do - it was very cute.

Oh, I used to love Sports Day! So many activities and it was just so fun to be out of the classroom. Nothing like parent/kid races to nurture that bond.
Lil Pumpkin, ganbatte ne!!!

Our schools sports mornings are just games and then races. Races are the only ones that get a place, but the games are fun. I love seeing the kids get in and enjoy them like they do.
Pumpkin looks so cute in her little uniform!

Looks like an excellent day. I was never a fan of school sports days as it was all about winning and getting through o district sports carnival but something like this looks like heaps of fun and something I would have loved as a little kid.

She's just too cute...bicky in one hand and playing the hoop game, simultaneously. Did she take a bite of her bicky during the race? Glad that it was a memorable first sports day for pumpkin, her mummy and daddy too!
