Art + Play | Let Them Eat Cake!!

Lil Pumpkin attended 2 of WowART Learning Studio's holiday arts and crafts workshop recently - Recycle, Reuse and Reduce {mixed media with modelling clay techniques} and What's on the Cake {cupcake making}. I wanted to sign her up for The Very Hungry Catepillar {tie-dye butterfly wings} but it wasn't available at the time slot we wanted.

All their workshops and camps are held on weekdays daytime, so I couldn't attend with Lil Pumpkin due to work. The boy accompanied her instead and helped me to take some photos :P

For Recycle, Reduce and Reuse, the kids used modeling clay and mixed media like straw, q-tips, toothpicks, wool etc. to create a birthday cake! It was a mad mix of colours and textures and I love the eclectic effect it created.

You know Lil Pumpkin had a good time when she can't stop talking about it! Even though she met Teacher Michelle only once during that workshop, up to now, she keeps on saying she wants to go back and make birthday cakes with her!

For What's on the Cake, the kids got to bake an actual cake from scratch. Sweet cupcakes to be exact! This is the recipe they followed to bake 4 cupcakes in 75mins.

This workshop is part of the Let's Be Active series which focuses more on nurturing the kid's social and development skills through art & roleplay.  The kids were little bakers measuring the ingredients, interacting to talk about the different steps involved...

... and being creative by personalising their own cupcakes with fairy sprinkles, cream frosting and chocolate chips!

Of course, that's if they could stop themselves from munching away on the yummy snacks before they finished haha. I actually ate both the cupcakes she made.. they were a little dense, but so yummy. I love the beautiful things that Lil Pumpkin creates with her own tiny hands :)

There's still one more week left for WowART Learning Studio's school holiday camps and workshops if you want to join in the fun. Each camp/ workshop will require 1-2 workshop pass {S$38 each, cheaper if you buy 2 or more}. For the full schedule and more information, visit their website or call 6352 2221.
