Sakura Haruka is not a blog just about celebrating motherhood. It shares the joys {& frustrations!} of parenting and of families as a whole. Inspired by my hubby's thoughts on being a dad, Celebrate Fatherhood is thus a monthly series where daddies from all walks of life share insights about what fatherhood means to them, and how we can appreciate their role in a family too.

I sincerely thank all those who took the time to guest post for me. Most of those I approached were very supportive and enthusiastic about this new series, sharing my belief that being an involved dad, and getting the dads involved, is important in building a strong family. Being a parent brings with it many challenges! Whether you have boys or girls, one just does not seem to be prepared for the journey ahead. To be fair, neither did my misses!

However, being a father grows on you, and as the kids become part of your lives, you can’t seem to think of life without their simple input into your every life.

In my short career as a father, there have certainly been “Ups and Downs”, where I have experienced lots of joys and frustrations at being a parent. I believe that Fathers play a very important role in the family, as studies have shown that the active involvement of Fathers, do create more confident and well developed children. Therefore, I certainly try to take a really “Hands-on” approach in my parenting style.

Personally, I do not really feel unappreciated as a father, as my affirmation comes from my wife and kids. When I get to share a joke with the wife and kids, or when we just simply laugh at ourselves, it is a simple antidote that seems to chase the blues away. For example, just recently, my eldest daughter taught me about the “ABCs of life!”

In her school assignment, she had to put words to describe the alphabet. Usually people say, A is for Apple, B is for ball.

My eldest decided to be creative and she wanted to think out of the box to match the alphabet. This is what she came up with:
E is for Email
G is for Google
W is for Windows
Y is for Youtube
M is for Mouse

But she did not change D….She said D is always for Daddy!

I guess I don’t feel unappreciated as a father, as if I always get appreciation from the people that matter…it’s all that counts!

Kids really have the best of imagination and it's so amazing to see how their minds work! When our partners and kids show appreciation to us, it certainly makes our work in the family seem so much lighter and happier, during the "down times" as well. Even simple things like saying "D is for Daddy!" can certainly do wonders to your heart and mind :)
