Hunger Games 2: Catching Fire Movie | Date Night at IMAX Shaw Lido

I can't remember the last time I was so excited to watch a movie. Like thinking about it day and night, re-watching it's prequel... eagerly counting down the days until its release kind of excited. Hunger Games 2: Catching Fire movie started showing in Singapore last Thursday, 21 Nov 13 and we won tickets to go watch it, but couldn't attend because the boy had work :/ To make up for it, the boy bought tickets to watch in the IMAX theatre at Shaw Lido on Friday.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire movie is based on the second book in Suzanne Collins' bestselling series. It chronicles the life of Katniss Everdeen after she emerges from the 74th Annual Hunger Games victorious.. but she's far from safe as she's called back to join the 75th Annual Hunger Games. Don't worry, no spoilers here {and you'll probably know what happened if you read the books anyway haha}.

The crystal-clear images, coupled with IMAX's customized theatre geometry and powerful digital audio, was supposed to have created a unique environment for an immersive cinematic experience. I thought it would be like the Science Centre's Omni-Theatre with its high dome screen but unfortunately, it just seems to have a larger wall-to-wall screen, and slightly better sound system than the usual cinema theatres. Nothing special about the seats either {e.g. no extra leg room} so I felt a little disappointed.

A Shaw Theatres IMAX ticket costs about the same as a Shaw Theatres Premiere {like GV Gold Class} ticket by the way, so next time if we want to go for a better movie treat, we'd choose that instead.

Didn't have time for a proper dinner before the show so we bought some take-away from Hot Star at Ion, B4.

We ordered their Popcorn Squid, Garlic Large Fried Chicken and Onion Large Fried Chicken. Felt that the Popcorn Squid was rather salty, but appetising. The chicken fillets were really huge though! We could only finish about half each.. should have just ordered one piece to share haha. The garlic and onion had rather similar tastes, so maybe next time we'll try the sour plum, seaweed or curry flavours ;p

I was thinking if I should be a real fangirl and dress up as Katniss to go for the movie but nahhh... just decided to use my Mockingjay Pin. Katniss started wearing it from the 74th Annual Hunger Games and it unknowingly became a sign of rebellion to the Capitol since mockingjays were created by nature after the disastrous experiment with jabberjays. The boy bought this for me from Q100, but you can search eBay or etsy too.

It's become a motivation tool for my fitness training too hahahahahahah

Overall, I think that Catching Fire was good, but not as good as the first Hunger Games movie. It is a 2.5 hours show but I feel that it's still missing very important pieces from the book, and the movie storyline isn't "connected" properly. A lot more emphasis is placed on the plotting of the rebellion, rather than the 75th Annual Hunger Games so the thrill that you get from watching the Hunger Games hunt is somewhat missing too.

But anyway, if you love the Hunger Games trilogy series.. you definitely don't want to miss this second movie installment. I'm really looking forward to the Hunger Games 3: Mockingjay movie!! Too bad we'll have to wait one more year for that, bummer!

2.5 hours?? I'd prob need a toilet break in between! Value for money for the ticket though.

It's really fun going to movies! I just wish they weren't so expensive for the whole family to go. I often times opt. to buy a movie, so we can watch it more than once and it's less expensive then us all going to one in the theater.

Agree that the movie felt disjointed. Still, it was one which really stirred up my feelings, esp when you think that it is a reflection of the human society.

Stacy: it'll be even better if it was a 3hrs show hahahaha

Alissa: that's true! We usually watch movies at home too but was too excited to wait ;p

Daniel: yeah it's still good, just not as good as I hoped / expected

I thought it was really well done and followed the story line about as well as a movie can. I was very impressed with how they did it.

I loved the science centre IMAX theatre. Now that it's been so long since I went, I wonder if it all looks much smaller, since I've grown much bigger. Haha.
