Chinese New Year 2014 | Girls CNY Outfits from Pumpkin Patch

For Chinese New Year {CNY} I love seeing Lil Pumpkin in her mini cheongsam dresses but I know they can be quite uncomfortable for a whole day out visiting the homes of relatives and friends. This year, I shopped early {よーし!} and decided to get her more casual chic clothes from Pumpkin Patch that wouldn't be too out of place for daily wear even after the CNY season.

For my non-Chinese friends who may not know, during CNY people typically wear new clothes to symbolize a new beginning in the new year. Wearing new clothes also symbolizes having more than enough things to use and wear in the new year.

I may not be getting her traditional Chinese cheongsams, but I cannot resist getting Lil Pumpkin something red for CNY! Red is a very auspicious colour for the Chinese, and is commonly worn during CNY to bring good fortune. Her Scotty Dog Print Dress in Red is just so whimsical and fits her playful personality! The Peter Pan colour and big buttons gives of a 1960s vibe which makes it seem so retro and stylish too. I love the mod clothes from that era!

Shorts are definitely a good idea when visiting as they is very comfortable and offers freedom of movement especially when they are running around with their little cousins / friends :) Lil Pumpkin is wearing the Black Retro Mod Textured Pleated Shorts {adore the sparkly threads!} paired with Lollie Pink Stretch Knit Peplum Top here. Pink is a nice alternative for little girls if you think red seems too mature.

Good thing about having shorts in a basic, dark colour is that it's easy to match it with different tops. Bedecked in this Royal Blue All Over Printed Peplum Top, Lil Pumpkin looks so naturally radiant and as sweet as the printed flowers :) Perfect for Spring, the time when CNY is celebrated! It even comes with a matching orange belt which accents the waist.

Who can refuse romantic lace? I know I can't! Dainty flowers decorate the knit material of the lined Willow Lace Top making it look as chic as it is laid-back, with a tiny pocket to keep her little goodies. Chocolate gold coins, perhaps? haha

Chinese New Year is coming up soon at the end of this month! If you haven't bought new clothes and accessories for the kiddos yet, you should check out Pumpkin Patch's new CNY collection that was launched just this week.

Girls can follow the fun, fashion trails of safari in the Eastern Treasure collection where wild animals roam free in fun, sublimated and border prints on tops and dresses or take off to faraway lands with the Mystical Rose collection with gorgeous floral, lace and magical creatures. I've seen some pieces that I'm eying for Lil Pumpkin too ;p

Boys get a Country Escape with a little bit of country, and a little bit of rock 'n' roll. This is where lunberjack checks team up with easy-to-wear chambray shirts, and prints on tees are big and funky. If they prefer the beach life, they will also like the new Mediterranean Cruise collection with surf-inspired clothes.

Happy CNY shopping!
