5th Birthday Interview! | Start of a New Family Tradition

Lil Pumpkin turned 5 earlier this week and I thought it'd be fun to start a new family tradition... birthday interviews! It's a great way to capture the memories and see how Lil Pumpkin's interests and thoughts change {or not} as she grows up.

I'm thinking of using these 20 questions as a base every year and maybe tweak them as we go along.

  1. How old are you? - 4 years old {She's actually 5!}
  2. What's your favourite colour? - Pink
  3. What's your favourite food? - Vegetables, especially carrots
  4. What's your favourite toy? - Her Disney Frozen "Magic Clip" dolls
  5. What's your favourite TV show? - Barbie and Winx Club
  6. What's your favourite place? - Japan and Korea
  7. What's your favourite song? - Winx Club theme song
  8. What do you like to wear? - Her Rapunzel dress
  9. What makes you happy? - Princesses
  10. What makes you sad? - Daddy
  11. What do you like to do with Mummy and Daddy? Play with her doll house
  12. What are you good at? - Study, specifically Chinese and English
  13. What are you not so good at? - Writing
  14. What makes you laugh? - Daddy
  15. What are you afraid of? - Ghosts, monsters, zombies
  16. Who is your best friend? Jonas, Sadie and Sammie
  17. What do you love about school? Playing with the flower shop in her classroom
  18. What do you want to be when you grow up? - Rapunzel
  19. If you had one wish, what would it be? - Elsa birthday {??}
  20. What's the best part of your birthday this year? Frozen birthday party in school

Most of her answers didn't surprise me except for the bit about the boy making her sad because he scolds her. Honestly, I don't think he scolds her that often {I thought I was the naggy one!}, but when he does, he can be very, very fierce and I guess she is not used to that and it impacts her a lot. Most of the time, he gives in to her whims like every doting father does.

No matter what, I know that the boy loves her very much and would never want to hurt her or make her sad. At least Lil Pumpkin recognises her Daddy as the one to make her laugh too! *grins*

We also took a video of the interview as we wanted to capture her personality and the cute way she talks at each age. This is it - unscripted {well, except for the questions}, uncut and unedited. I asked her to explain some of her answers so if you'd like to find out why she said she's 4 years old or why her Daddy makes her laughs.. check it out :) If the video isn't working, watch it on YouTube here.

And yes, she's wearing the rainbow chevron dress from PriviKids I specially kept for her from February haha! Isn't is gorgeous?? :)

Do you have birthday interviews with your kids? What questions do you ask?

Oh, how cute! I love her reason for being 4 and not 5. "I don't change face"
Happy 5th birthday, Lil Pumpkin! :) x

Lovely idea, Ai! Happy Birthday to Pumpkin!

It's a good age to start cos she can express her thoughts much better.

I may try with the Ts but I probably will not get what they are trying to tell me. :p

Masshole Mommy: Funny she said this because she usually isn't scared of them!

Talia: haha thank you :P

Angie: thanks for the birthday wishes. I must do more videos with her!

Theresa: never too late to start!

Grace: ya I couldn't stop laughing when she said that the first time I heard it haha

Missus Tay: yeah maybe when they are a bit older :)

My son's teacher makes a list like this at the beginning and end of the school year and I love it. What a great idea to do it for each birthday!

What a great idea, I think I will start this tradition with my Abigail. This will be great to recap at her 21st Birthday party!

I love this birthday tradition especially when you make it into a video. So cute to hear her say that Daddy makes her laugh. I made Sophie a scrapbook for her birthday last year with some interview questions and intend to do it every year too. Happy turning 5 little Lil Pumpkin.

How fun! Her answers are cute!

I usually do an interview in the winter, when it's too cold outside to do anything.

I ask a lot of questions, but one that sticks out in my mind is what they want to be when they grow up? Their answers change from year to year.
