Bub & Me: Transformers Age of Extinction Family Movie Date

Last night we caught the premiere of Transformers Age of Extinction movie at The Cathay. It opens in Singapore today. Don't worry, there's no spoilers in this post, but here's a short synopsis;

"4 years have passed since the final battle between the Autobots and the Decepticons left Chicago in ruins and claimed the lives of over a thousand civilians. The U.S. government has severed its ties with the Autobots and branded them as fugitives. An elite CIA division called "Cemetery Wind" is formed with the intent of exterminating the surviving Autobots with the aid of Lockdown, a Transformer bounty hunter. With help from a new cast of humans, Optimus Prime and the Autobots rise to meet their most fearsome challenge yet. Again, they are swept up in a war of good and evil, ultimately leading to a climactic battle across the world."

Duracell, world's leading manufacture of high-performance alkaline batteries, has been powering the transitor radio of yesteryear to modern-day digital gadgets, and invited us down to celebrate 50 years of delivering 6x long-lasting power and entertainment for the whole family by hosting this premiere movie screening.

I think this movie falls under the category of "only for the family"... because only for the boy and Lil Pumpkin, will I go and watch a Transformers movie. The boy has been playing with Transformer toys ever since he was a little boy {and still collects them} while Lil Pumpkin... well, she has an eclectic taste in likes everything from girly Disney princesses, to zombies, vampires and yes, also robots. I think she knows about Transformers from the boy, and also from her cousin who is also a huge Transformers fan~

I'm pretty much clueless when it comes to Transformers, only understanding that they are somewhat alien robots who came to Earth to find an energy source {??} or something.

Before the movie started, we were at The Cathay's main entrance taking photos of the giant Transformers statues when lo and behold, Optimus Prime and Bumblebee characters walked out!! What luck!!

Actually I didn't even know that was Optimus Prime... I asked the boy, "is that the bad guy??!" I think if I said it any louder he would have wanted to dig a hole and crawl in. "No dear, that's Optimus Prime, the leader of the good robots." "Oh... I thought Bumblebee was the leader??"

The boy's eyes nearly rolled all the way to the back of his head :P He promptly gave me a crash course of Transformers 101. Basically, Autobots are the good guys led by Optimus Prime. The bad guys are the Decepticons, led by Megatron, who was killed in the last movie, Transformers: Dark of the Moon. Buuuut, like the iconic Duracell bunny, they just keep coming back hahaha.

If you are like me, who have never watched any of the previous 3 {yes, 3!} Transformer movies, it's ok. You'll still be able to follow the latest live-action Transformers film and be wowed by all the special effects. The cast are entirely new characters anyway, and they do explain some of the history. Plus, this is the first film to feature Dinobots, which I found to be pretty cool!

I also loved the charismatic Stanley Tucci, who plays the arrogant scientist, Joshua Joyce. He stole the show for me, compared to the lead Mark Wahlberg. Maybe because he seems more interesting and funny, or also maybe because I liked him since his days in The Devil Wears Prada and his more recent role as Caesar Flickerman, host for the Hunger Games.

Lil Pumpkin was a very good girl during the movie. Unlike her usual talkative self that keeps asking questions {sometimes at the most inappropriate times during movies!}, she was rather engrossed and kept her eyes glued to the screen.. only moving to sit on the boy's lap at one part, and tearing at another sad bit. I think she has definitely learnt how to behave better at the cinemas so this probably signals more family movie dates out.. yay~!

This show is rated PG-13 since there are loud noises, people dying and coarse language used during the movie, so parents with young kids should be aware. However, if you are ok to bring them to watch X-men or Marvel Avengers movies... this is around that level.

Am I a Transformers convert now? Not really, but I am intrigued to find out more about the previous films to and see what I've been missing all these years :P

Will you be catching this latest Transformers movie?

So you know Bumblebee... and logically the 'other' one is the bad one right? I see where you were going with that. :)

Not quite into this series myself either, too much banging around.
