Pre-birthday Hair Cut! 🎂

I turn 35 tomorrow. Yup, half-way to 40.

Birthdays used to be a big deal to me. I mean, they still are.. but as I get older, I don't get excited over them as much. It's like flying I guess.

When I was younger, I used to be so eager to sit on the plane, even if it was just for short trips to Malaysia or Thailand. But nowadays, I'm really not that keen and I absolutely dread long plane rides which is one of the reasons why we haven't brought Lil Pumpkin to countries further away like the US or UK yet..

Since I turned the big 3-0, it actually takes me some time to remember my age too as I don't think about it that much hahaha..

Anyway, been feeling a little stressed the past month due to Lil Pumpkin's exams and kinda frumpy with my messy hair that I've been trying to grow out, so decided to get a little treat to pamper myself since I had some free time to spare in town yesterday.

Made an impromptu visit to Berne at Degree Hair Studio and thank goodness he was available!

Haven't cut my hair with him for some time because I've been trying to keep it long, and I don't have the luxury of time to spend 2-3 hours {because Berne is very meticulous, and there's usually a lot of clients there} at the salon anymore. Plus, we don't visit Orchard as much these days.

Even though we haven't seen each other for a while, we caught up with each other's lives and chatted like old friends.

But not too much, as like I mentioned before, Berne also knows that I like to go in to unwind so does not start unnecessary, long idle chats with me {as other hairstylists or shampoo girls sometimes do} and just lets me be - either reading a mag, catching up on news, or getting some shut-eye.

I didn't really go in with a specific hairstyle in mind but just gave him some simple instructions and let him do his magic.

He still remembers that I like my hair thinner/ lighter and helped me neaten it up with a soft fringe in the front to give it a bit of "oomph" since I thought it was getting kinda flat. His wife, Jas, who is more of a hair treatment/ colouring specialist, also recommended me a treatment to restore some shine and hair health.

All in all, the cut, wash, treatment & blow took about 1.5hrs and I came out looking more human, and less like a wild lion. Friends have also complimented me for looking younger too, hehe.

Thank you, Berne 🖤

Things have changed somewhat at Far East Plaza due to dwindling footfall and changing consumer habits. It's such a shame to see it lose its vibrancy, especially since I used to hang out there with friends when I was younger. Lots of empty shops and closed shutters.

Even my dear Primitive Art seems like a shadow of its past.

I do hope that the mall management does not decide to close down the whole mall for a "revamp" and lose many of the regular shops there in the process.

If you're looking for a reliable hair salon, do pay Berne and Jas a visit at Degree Hair Studio. They are my family's fave and I hope that their business will continue to thrive and survive even as Orchard Road plans to transform into a more buzzing district in the near future.
