Thankful Thursday: Lifelong Friends

The girls above are part of my core group of friends. Lifelong friends. Some I have known for about 2 decades, some I have known for slightly less. The guys may have come and gone {and of course some have stayed longer than others ;p} but the girls never change :)

Over the years, we have gone on to do our own stuff. Be it to go overseas for studies, move on to different working industries, settle down and have kids etc... Our lifestyles may have differed from one another, but the bond that ties us all together is still there.

These are the girls where I may not get to see for a whole year, but know that they have my back at a call. These are also the same girls that I may not chat with every day, but when we do meet up, it feels like time never passed by because the closeness is still there.

Last weekend we met up to have our annual Christmas/year-end gathering. I'm glad that even though we are still in our late twenties, we still can enjoy each other's company, dress up to a theme party {it was "High School" this year} and still have silly fun. We don't need no fancy china or expensive linen, just a picnic on newspapers is still fine by us ;p

I am thankful for these lifelong friends, who have certainly seen me through many of my life's milestones... School graduations, heartbreaks, finding new jobs, weddings, having a kid etc. No man is an island, and just as family is important, friends are invaluable for support and encouragement too. But, I believe in having quality friends.. and it's not about the quantity of friends you have.

As with many others now that the year is ending, I've been thinking about my blogging goals for next year. I'd share more next week, but one goal I'd like to have is to gain more quality friends for Sakura Haruka, for me in this blogosphere. You know, people who actually care about what I'm writing, and have meaningful conversations with me. Friends who visit, not just because I visited their blogs, but because they want to know how I'm doing too... As with all friendships, I understand these take time & effort to grow... but I'm extending my hand out, and I hope you will too :)

And hopefully, maybe.. we can all find some lifelong friends here. Now, wouldn't that some kind of wonderful?

Thankful Thursdays with Kate. What do you think about finding friends online? Any goals for your blog in 2012?

First of all what a lovely post. You made me thinking acctually are virtual friends really friends although we share lots of things daily. I have made quite a few "friends" trough a lovely City Daily Photo that Imhave been a part of for years and I even spoke with one or two over phone and private emails, FB also helps.
It's amazing how much I learned about people around the world and their customs.
It made my life richer, people from Australia, America, Japan, France... became close to my heart because we managed to share the best of our lifes.
Best to you and wish you meet many lovely people along the way.

Such a beautiful post <3

Friends truly are that family we choose aren't they? My BFF lives an hour and a half away but when we get together no matter how long it's been we just pick up where we left off. Love it.

Fabulous post! I moved away from where I grew up so I don't get to stay in as close contact with friends as I would like, but I love getting together with them when I make it home for the summer!

Thanks so much for sharing such a wonderful glimpse into your world and your friendships!

I have a few close girlfriends like that, but we see each other less than once a year :( I miss them :( But it's like you say, when we do meet up, it's like we haven't been apart for long at all, we're all so comfortable with each other. It is truly wonderful to have great friendships isn't it?

I LOVE your post! You are fortunate to be able to gather with them sometimes. Since we moved to Japan I have not seen many of my old friends for a long time. Even though I miss them, they are FOREVER friends along with new ones I have made on my travels! xoxoxo

What a great thing to be thankful for! Friends are the best! I don't have many lifelong friends but I have a couple. I know they will be there if I ever need anything even if we don't see each other or talk often. It's very comforting. I always look for a few quality friends rather than many aquaintences.

I am visiting from Thirsty Thursday.
