They Say It Takes a Village to Raise a Child

There's an African proverb that says, "It takes a whole village to raise a child". The rationale behind is that child upbringing is a communal effort that involves everybody in the family, and even the community like neighbours and friends. Indeed, children are blessings from God that the whole community celebrates for and protects.

Raising a child is a journey and one that needs plenty of support. It is hard, no doubt, but when you have encouragement and knowledge that you are not alone in your struggles, it makes it so much easier. As a young mother at 24, most of my friends were not even married, yet alone with kids, when Lil Pumpkin was born. My family is, of course, great in supporting me and Lil Pumpkin, but I'm also thankful that I got to know other parents through blogging. Thankful for sharing their stories, experiences and friendships with me.

However, not every parent is a blogger, and not every parent has time or the opportunity to make friends with other families. Especially when you are a working parent where days are spent in the office, and weekends are mainly spent catching up on household mundanes and family time. Fortunately, NTUC U Family is a community that advocates the building of strong and happy families and provides those opportunities by organising family bonding events to make parenting networking accessible, information available and family activities affordable.

I'm glad to say that for the rest of the year, I'm a U Family Blog Champion and will be sharing with you our experiences with the U Family community. We'll be bringing Lil Pumpkin to the U Picnic at Marina Barrage this Saturday, and other exciting upcoming events like Pumpkin Face Cookies Baking Workshop {27 Oct 2012} and Family Night Out Mega Dance {24 Nov 2012}.

If you think it is hard to find your village within your busy schedule, do join the U Family community and get to meet other parents at its activities. Together, we can support one another, and have fun at it! Registration to join U Family is free and you can also receive a welcome gift. For more info, check the sign-up page.

Thank you for being part of my parenting journey and village with me :)

* Disclosure: I am a U Family Blog Champion due to an invitation from NTUC U Family. No monetary compensation was received, and all opinions are my own.

It sure ain't easy raising a child. So glad to find fellow friends and mums who never hesitate to offer a listening ear and helping hand. Enjoy the picnic this week, Ai! =) See ya!

This sounds like a great support system for parents. I agree, it isn't easy raising a child, but it is a lot easier when you know you have others to rely on for help and support when you need it!

Have a great time at the picnic!
