For little girls: Practical Separates from Pumpkin Patch

I love to wear dresses because they are so feminine and offer an easy all-in-one outfit solution as compared to cracking your head trying to co-ordinate an outfit of separates. I often choose them for Lil Pumpkin too. However, when I was cleaning her wardrobe for Chinese New Year, I realised that she actually has, and I can't believe I'm saying this, TOO MANY dresses!! Oops. I probably do too but let's keep that for another post :P

Anyway, since then I've been making a constant effort to not choose pretty party frocks when shopping for her clothes, but more practical separates instead. Versatile pieces that can be mixed and matched for different styles to suit different moods and occasions. You can get a lot of mileage from separates as compared to just one-piece dresses.. and that means less money spent, and more wardrobe space! ;p

In particular, I've been looking out for pants and tights as they are easy to dress up or down. They will also keep her warm in the {sometimes really chilly} air-conditioned malls and classrooms. I noticed that they play and sit on the floor a lot in class, so the pants / tights will help to protect her modesty better than skirts haha ;) I picked out these comfy, stylish pieces for her from the We're on a Safari & Just over the Rainbow Pumpkin Patch collections.

Here are 8 separate essentials I think all little girls should have in their wardrobe:

1. Basic T-shirts - very wearable and suitable for summer / our hot tropical weather
2. Tank tops - can be casual, yet chic & matches loads of other clothing and accessories
3. Light cardigan - must-have to keep warm & layer over tops, dresses, skirts
4. Denim jeans - so durable and hardy {i.e. will survive all those rough play!}
5. Dark pants - hides stains well and probably the most versatile of them all
6. Shorts - keeps them cool and comfortable
7. Skirts - in any styles for sweet girlishness
8. Scarf - great for styling outfits, like this

Let me know if you have others to add to the list!

* Disclosure: Pumpkin Patch provided the clothes for review. All other accessories belong to me. No monetary compensation was received, and all opinions are my own.

Ah that's also something I realised recently... bought too many dresses for JE! When she was 3yo, I started buying for 4yo. When dresses for 4yo started piling up, I happily moved on to 5yo. Err and then even 6yo. And now the girl usually tells me she wants 'shirt and pants'. *smacks self* Seriously thinking of selling off some of the dresses I'd "cleverly" bought in advance!
