Korea 2011: Lotte World Theme Park

Why visit: Family amusement park in downtown Seoul
Recommended time to spend: One day
Nearest Train station: Jamsil {Line 2 or 8}

Lotte World holds the Guiness World Record for being the largest indoor amusement park in the world, however, it is so much more than that! Lotte World also includes an outdoor amusement park called "Magic Island", a Korean Folk museum, shopping malls, a hotel, a huge supermarket, movie theaters and why yes, even an indoor ice rink!

Tickets range from KRW 38,000 - 22,000/adult and KRW 29,000 - 16,000/child. Children under 3 yrs old enter free. There's a range because you can buy special one day passports {admission, free tour to Folk Museum & rides - recommended}, just admission tickets, or discounted tickets for after pm or 7pm. If you are a foreigner, you can even get 25% off each admission ticket with a special coupon easily found at any tourist information centre. Actually, Koreans can get the tickets pretty cheap too. Jaye offered to lend me his credit card to pay and get 50% off the admission tickets but it would be a hassle to borrow & return the card {as he couldn't come with us to the park. And what if they thought I stole the card??!!!} so I declined the offer... but 50% off is a pretty good deal!

Passport ticket holders get KRW 2,000 discount on the ice rink too. So extra fun for the kids! :)

We arrived at Lotte World just around noon so decided to just eat lunch and walk around the shopping malls before entering the amusement park after 4pm. There's a big Toys 'R' Us there and we bought ourselves a cute Hello Kitty table heehee. It's not that big and thankfully, could sit on the pram so carrying it around wasn't that much of a problem :P Lotte World amusement park is open all year round until 10pm {weekdays} or 11pm {weekends}! That's why even if you go in after 4pm or 7pm, you will still have plenty of time to enjoy the amusement rides and attractions.

Lotte World amusement park has many fun rides, even for the young ones. We went on a Friday and did not have to queue long to go on the kiddy rides {esp in Level 1}. The popular adult rides, however, were packed with youngsters and I saw some waiting time as long as 2hrs!! o.O It was fine with us because we didn't intend to sit the adult rides with the little pumpkin around, but if you intend sit on those rides, try to go during weekdays. There are some very exciting rides like Atlantic Adventure {roller coaster}, Gyro Drop {high tower drop ride}, Flume Ride {water plunge ride} and Waikiki Wave {twisting, swinging-in-the-air ride}.

Throughout the year, Lotte World celebrates different festival and when we went they were celebrating Halloween so there were many decorations, picture booths, performances and characters dressed in Halloween costumes. By the way, I think 2 rides you shouldn't miss out on are the World Monorail, which goes around the entire amusement park {indoors and outdoors}, and the Aeronauts Balloon Ride {indoors}. Both rides give you the most beautiful scenic sky view of Lotte World.

Lotte World is very family friendly and it is easy to move around with a stroller. There are facilities like Toddler's Playroom, Breastfeeding Room and stroller rental. Food from street stalls or restaurants are easily available and not that expensive too. It definitely is a place to go for the family to enjoy and relax!

An indoor amusement park would just be too cool. You can have a great time year around.
