Things I Know: Blog Goals for 2012

What's a new year without some new year goals? :)

I touched briefly on one of my goals, building an online community, last week but I'd like to expand more on that as well as share my other goals. I don't have many so that I'm not too stressed out over it, or find it too difficult to attain ;p

1. Build a better brand presence
When Sakura Haruka first started, I didn't clearly know where it was headed. I just knew that I love writing {and don't get enough of it in my present job haha}. To provide some focus, I slowly identified that I was writing more on Parenting & Lifestyle, and kind of stuck with that as my "niche" :)

I don't claim to be any parenting expert, but I do want to share the ups & downs of parenting a toddler girl. I also want to connect with other parent bloggers & readers, to learn from them, and also be an inspiration to them as well.

And what about lifestyle? This blog is much more than a mummy blogger's space. It's about my family lifestyle, an Asian mother's lifestyle, a woman's lifestyle living in exciting Singapore related to home, fashion, photography etc. It is kind of broad still, but at least it provides some perspective into what people {readers & sponsors} can expect to find here.

2. Build content
I've a vision for Sakura Haruka to be a homely place for people to visit, chill out and mingle with interesting parenting & lifestyle posts that they can relate to. Posts that are engaging, thoughtful and encourages interaction. I'm kind of a creature of habit, and I plan on writing more feature series at regular intervals, to engage readers to their favourite topics at specific days. Some features {tentatively named} I have in mind are:
  • Danboard Photostory #WW {creative pics using Danboard anime figuries to tell a story}
  • App-aholic {reviews of my fave educational, camera, photo-editing apps}
  • Bub & Me {fun family ways to spend time with kids}

3. Build community
The driving force behind my first two goals - to build on relationships. I would like to build a community of supportive, encouraging and loyal readers & bloggers, and certainly, one of the best part of blogging on Sakura Haruka is the interaction I get, and I'd like to improve on that. Simple steps I plan to make is:
  • Be more social off the blog on FB, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest etc. Don't just read - respond more.
  • Meet up with other bloggers or readers. Playdates, please?!
  • Hopefully attend at least one bloggy conference/event
  • Spread more comment love on other blogs with similar interests
Above all, just remember to have fun and keep this blog true to myself! I don't blog for revenue {nice when that happens, but I've a job for that :P} and do this simply because I like it. So hope you lovelies with stick around with me for another year or more and see how my goals turn out! :)

What do you think of my goals? Any tips to help me achieve them?

Great goals! It seems like every time I make a blog goal, something gets in the way. My main goal for 2012 is to post regularly :)

I would probably say my goals are pretty similar. My blog is very new at the moment.

I especially love the idea of community; it's part of what makes blogging what it is.

It's always good to have goals for your yourself and your blog. When I started mine I wanted to do it all. Now I know (from watching my daughter) one step at a time.

I'm also working on building an online presence with people of like minds. It's always fun to connect with other mommy bloggers.

Those are some really great blogging goals. I like how you are incorporating branding and defining your niche. I really think that's one of the most important things for a serious blogger.

Great goals for your blog. I'm up for playdates since I think our daughters are about the same age :)
And do we even find blogging conferences or events in Singapore? Guess I'm still a noob at it.

Nicely written! I think I should be more motivated about my blog, like you are. What's more I'm not even working and yet I don't seem to find enough time to blog and socialise online. Anyway, count me in for the playdates once I get back to sg! Can't wait!
