"Daddy is an Animal Doctor!"

Lil Pumpkin had a real treat last Sunday as we brought her down to the boy's workplace to actually see what her daddy does for a living. Does not hurt that she gets to play with the animals there too! ;p

Lil Pumpkin is comfortable with the idea that her daddy and mummy goes to work, and leave her for some parts of the weekdays at preschool or at grandma's. However, we have never gone into detail for what we actually do.

The boy is a vet, and we explained to the Lil Pumpkin that it means he is "an animal doctor". She understands those simple terms and grasps the concept easily. The vet practice is his family business and maybe one day, Lil Pumpkin might take over that business :)

I'm not sure if it is the same for all kids, but Lil Pumpkin does show a strong interest in animals. She will eagerly read books about them, or if she spots a dog/ cat/ bird on the street, she will run up to talk to it. No fear at all. I, on the other hand, am concerned about dirt and diseases that some animals might bring {paranoid mama strikes again!} but I will try not to impose such ideas on her to kill her natural love for animals or make her grow afraid of them. I believe that as much as possible, kids should explore and learn from experiences.. not just what the adults tell them to do. We can {and should} guide them, yes, but the ultimate decision should lie with them.

The boy and I do not keep any pets, which might be surprising to some people. A lot of people assume that vets keep pets, but seriously, not all do. Keeping a pet is a huge responsibility and with our current situation whereby we are not home most of the time, it is not ideal. Also, Lil Pumpkin still has her eczema which will hopefully tone down when she gets older, but now still has to be kept under control with constant medication and creams.

Lil Pumpkin was really excited during the visit to the boy's clinic. He introduced the various animals and instruments there, and let her "examine" his old cat, Mao Mao, which is 19 years old this year! Can you believe it? That's 93 human years old!

It was a great bonding time between Lil Pumpkin and her daddy and I'm glad we brought her down. The boy used to help his mother out in the clinic when he was a young boy too and those were valuable memories he still remembers today. It's what helped him to discover his "calling" and boosted his aspiration to be a vet. I'm looking forward to the Lil Pumpkin sharing similar precious memories with the boy....

Do any of your kids show signs of what they want to be in the future? :) Do you have dreams of what jobs you would like your kids to do?

That's cool that she enjoyed her time with Papa. I always wanted to be a vet when I was a little girl, perhaps she truly will be one!

Wonderful post with beautiful pictures Ai! I will not be surprised if your little daughter also becomes an animal doctor!:) My favourite pets are dogs and we have had many over the years. Take care.

Gosh she is cute - so special taking you children in to your work. My son hasn't shown much interest in careers except for possibly a palaeontologist - he loves dinosaurs :)

Gorgeous pics! My Small Child told me she wanted to be Jeff from the Wiggles. Interesting career choice, but I'm not going to dissuade her - the Wiggles are multi-millionaires, and besides, she looks great in a skivvy!

Sharisse: maybe! I'll keep u informed ;p

Judy: thanks for the message :) My fave animals are dogs too! Think my hubby is more of a cat person..

Carli: that's cool!! My workplace is bringing in some dino bones for an exhibition. I'll try to snap a pic when it's ready for ya.

it's nice when they are actually of age where they can understand what we do. sweet that they were able to bond over the boy's passion :)

Wow I had no idea the boy was a vet! I always think they must be the smartest people, because they have to know heaps about all different kinds of animals!

W haven't really thought about what our kids might be, and they haven't shown any obvious desires. Taylah is very athletic, and Bridie is dramatic, and bailey loves fishing, but I'm not sure if those passions will sway them at all. :)

Aww such a sweet bonding moment. I'm sure your little girl will remember it forever. You'll never know, she just might take over the business one day :)

This is great, bringing her down to see what the daddy does in the office. Makes her appreciate her daddy more, I think. :)

I don't know if my girl has shown any "potential"... but cos she's always jumping and dancing and singing around, my family has been telling me she is going to be a performer!!! (But then again they said I was like that when I was young too and I turned out otherwise. :P)

My youngest is animal crazy but I am not sure what she'll be. At the moment both girls want to be teachers. What a surprise!

I love your photos. Rachel

Wow very cool job your hubby has! One of the best jobs to take a kid to. :) Jo Ern loves animals too but is slightly afraid of them face to face.

oomph: yes, it's amazing how much she can comprehend now..

Jess: haha don't let the boy hear that or his head might grow big! :P

Tahlia: lovely! hmm.. it's never too late you know :)

Madeline: maybe, maybe heh

Ming: I think my girl might end up entertaining too because of how she is now haha.. but still too early to tell.

Rachel: thank you :)

Stacy: ya the animals was a big bonus point! she's a lil scared of even small animals?

I love the pictures from the visit to daddy's work. How very exciting for them both! I especially love the picture with the stethoscope and the cat.

My daughter loves animals and does the same thing with books. Her favorite is probably her favorite because of all of the animals in it.

It's so much fun guessing what they might want to do when they grow up. I still can't picture it. She LOVES animals so much, but gets really into typing on the keyboard and talking on the phone and coloring with a pen especially.

Sakura's so lucky to visit her daddys workplace...a very interesting place indeed with so many animals and a stethoscope to play with too! Something tells me she has the vet genes in her too! She looks so at ease checking out MaoMao! How cool is that?
