Bub & Me: Singapore Safari Zoo Run 2013

After 2 long {at least to Lil Pumpkin!} weeks of wait since we collected our runners' kit,  we finally participated in Safari Zoo Run 2013, which started 5 years ago to commemorate the death anniversary of Singapore's beloved orang utan - Ah Meng. In this event participants can enjoy the sights of the wildlife exhibits while keeping up with a healthy lifestyle through a run in the Singapore Zoo and Night Safari. I guess when the River Safari opens up later this year, it will be included from next year onwards.

This was part of my gear for the run. I left my runners at work so I had to wear my high-cut fighter planes Nike shoes. How cute are those!

We participated in the 6km Family Fun Run so actually brought more stuff because of Lil Pumpkin - biscuit snacks, umbrella, disposable rain poncho, stroller. It was a good thing we brought the additional items because it started to pour halfway through the run :(  At least with them we could continue with our walk, and not stop to seek cover.

Our run's flag-off time was at 10am but we arrived at the zoo around 8am. Why? Because despite the notice for "ample parking available", it was really quite limited considering the number of participants for the whole event, which started at 7.30am. We didn't want to rush to find a lot or be stuck in a jam, so we arrived earlier...

And had a sumptous breakfast heehee. Couldn't resist nomming on this nasi lemak from Ah Meng's Cafe! :P

Lil Pumpkin and hubby at the starting line. Love this photo of them! ^^V

Just a speck of the huge crowd taking part in the 6km Fun Run. It is a non-competitive event and a lot of families took part for just a leisure stroll through the 2 parks.

Most were like us and stopped to admire the animals...

And take photos with them ;p

Lil Pumpkin was happy to get up close and personal with the elephants :) We managed to see hippos, elephants, giraffes, hyenas, wolves, orang utans, zebras etc. on our route.

It started to rain halfway through our run so we dressed Lil Pumpkin up in a disposal poncho and sat her down on the stroller most of the way because it was just too difficult for her to walk in the downpour with it. A good thing the event wasn't called off though {because of no lightning??}.. would have been a shame to walk all that way and not complete the run.

She's so happy with her exclusive finisher's medal! *clap clap clap* We took about 1.5hrs to complete the 6km Fun Run.

We all had a good time and I'm looking forward to joining every year, if it fits in with our schedule.

As a Safari Zoo Run participant, you are also entitled to a free entry to the Singapore Zoo on the day itself, but because of the rain, we didn't go. You can view all the categories and fee information here. Do try to register early as it usually closes before the deadline due to overwhelming response.

Have you participated in a family run before? How was your experience?

* Disclosure: The event coverage of  Safari Zoo Run was due to an invitation from Wildlife Reserves Singapore & Pink Apple Pte Ltd. No monetary compensation was received, and all opinions are my own.
