Weekend Brunch @ The Bank Bar + Bistro, One Shenton

As working adults with our own families, we often don't have much time to spend with our own parents. Rushing with work assignments, fetching the kids to and from school, playing with the kids, cooking, cleaning... it all takes up a lot of our time. However despite all this, the boy and I will still try to catch-up and eat with them once a week... After all, as we are so busy with life and watching our kids grow up, we often forget that our parents, too, are getting old.

The boy and I were introduced to a hidden gem in the CBD area and brought my parents down for a Sunday brunch. They love to discover new eating places as well :) After serving up hearty meals for the past 2 years, The Bank Bar + Bistro just started a weekend special menu this July comprising of the revamped Traditional Roast and Breakfast that's available every Sat & Sun from 11am - 6pm.
We arrived just after 11am and while waiting for our food, Lil Pumpkin played in the new Kids Playroom within the restaurant. It was covered with soft floor mats {good for little ones who are still crawling}, had a good variety of toys and a tv for watching cartoons. Apparently the toys will be changed every month, so kids won't be bored on their return visits ;) There are big comfy chairs for parents to sit and watch their kids play as well. I love the juxtaposition of the colouful kids toys with the old English room decoration.

Actually, I love the decor of the whole restaurant - very spacious, comfortable, yet chic. Somewhere you'd chill out at with friends after work, or enjoy a leisure weekend brunch like us.
Mum and the boy had the Weekend Roast {S$25}- roasted striploin {you could also choose roasted chicken} with roast potato, buttered corn, carrots, broccoli, confit of vine tomato and thyme jus accompanied with homemade Yorkshire pudding. The striploin was pretty tender and they enjoyed the dish over all. It also came with a complimentary creamy cheesecake dessert.
Dad and I had the Big Breakfast {S$20} - eggs, bacon, ham, sausage, sauteed mushroom, baked beans, roast potato, vine tomato with a choice of coffee, tea, soft drink or juice. Dad liked his tasty omelette eggs with melted cheese very much, while although I ordered poached eggs, they mixed up the order and served me sunny-side ups. I didn't mind as I like sunny-side ups too but I would have preferred if the egg yolks were "runnier". I like to dip my toast in the egg yolk ;P
Lil Pumpkin had the best dish I reckon. I ordered for her The Bank Pancake {S$10} which had light, fluffy pancakes with fresh berries, berry compote, maple syrup topped with mascarpone cheese. Yummy. I'll order that the next time we return. Or maybe I'll try their Eggs Benedict with Parma Ham {S$13} which has 2 poached eggs with vine tomato & homemade Hollandaise sauce on toasted brioche. Our next visit might be pretty soon as Mum likes the place and wants to go back with my sisters haha

Although the CBD area is pretty dead on weekends, The Bank Bar & Bistro is just walking distance from Merlion Park {about 15 minutes} or Chinatown {20 minutes}. You can take a slow stroll or drive down to those areas to enjoy the rest of your family day after a happy weekend brunch. And while you're at it, bring your parents along ;)

That looks like a very family friendly dining establishment! I wish we had more of them around here. We would definitely go out to eat more if we did!

That's so cool that they have a kid's play room in there. We don't have anything like that in nice restaurant; only McDonalds.
