Over the weekend we went to watch the
Horrible Histories Awful Egyptians family show at DBS Arts Centre. It was staged as one of the nine international theatre productions adapted from best-selling children’s books for
KidsFest 2014.
The one-hour show was really entertaining and filled with lively song and dance. Although the recommended age was for kids 7 years and above, there were a lot of younger kids there too who were thoroughly engaged, including Lil Pumpkin. She was able to follow the hilarious storyline of 2 schoolkids visiting a museum who unwittingly conjure up the spirit of Ramses and then find out more about the life stories of some Pharoahs, power of the pyramids, foul facts of death and mummification.
There was a part about Isis searching for the body parts of Osiris, which I thought was a bit gruesome for the younger kids, but Lil Pumpkin didn't seem to mind at all.
We adults had a good laugh throughout the show too. The boy enjoyed it so much he actually
volunteered to be the first to have his photo taken with the actors during the meet-and-greet haha. After the show he also suggested that we walked over to Kinokuniya at Liang Court to buy the book!
Which we did and it's a good thing we went because Kinokuniya was having 20% off for card members that weekend :P I managed to choose some other books for myself and Lil Pumpkin too.
The seats at DBS Arts Centre were rather comfortable and spacious. It was our first time there, although we've been to Robertson Quay many times. Quite a small theatre but that's good for the stage actors to really connect and interact with the audience I reckon.
Family pic! We watched the 5pm show, so Lil Pumpkin managed to have a nap before we went and was very cheerful throughout *phew*. I don't like to go for events during her afternoon nap as she can be quite grumpy without enough sleep.
During the meet-and-greet, the organisers took Polaroid photos and gave them out as mementos. Such a sweet gesture :)
There were even free ice-cream and balloons too! Woohooo~! KidsFest 2014 has ended but I suggest you look out for all their performances next year around this time to not miss out. We were supposed to catch
The Gruffalo's Child as well but couldn't because I was
out of the country. Sigh.. hopefully next year! :P
Check out the rest of our
Bub & Me activities or list of
kid-friendly places in Singapore too.

It's hard isn't it, especially when you take kids to a show and you're not sure of the content. Great pics! x
