5th Birthday Photoshoot with Rorybird + {International Giveaway & Promo Code}

Lil Pumpkin had a mini-photoshoot with my sister a few weeks back and here are some of the photos. I didn't manage to pass my sis all the images I chose for her to edit, so did some simple light-adjustment myself first. Will have to ask her to edit properly later :P

Had a hard time choosing what to post because oh goodness, I LOVE how she captured Lil Pumpkin's expressions and feelings!! Such a beautiful way to remember her time as a 5-year-old :)

She's wearing Rorybird, a new children's brand launched in Singapore bringing originality to traditional styles with whimsical designs and tropical colours.

Rorybird was created by two expat mums living in Singapore who searched the island for hand embroidery and applique children's clothing after the birth of their children. After finding that these styles were not readily available, they decided to bring these timeless styles to Singapore, but with a new twist of hand-drawn designs, bespoke patterns and bold colour combinations.

I'm not sure about you but when I was growing up, smocked frocks were quite the rage and my mother loved to dress my sisters and I in them. There's something very endearing about these sweet, innocent dresses that define traditional charm for little girls.

I saw the Hand-Smocked Elephant Bishop Party Dress and immediately fell in love with it. It's a stunning combination of beautiful shades of blue with crisp white cotton. I love the ethnic feel with the smocked elephant parade.

Amber, one of the co-founders for Rorybird, told me that the smocked bishop dresses reminded her of her childhood days too. Bishop dresses are very Southern United States, but the brand took this classic design and have added a modern twist by adding in themes from Southeast Asia, such as elephants and tropical fish, and bright colors which wouldn't typically be seen in this style.

It is ankle-length and a little longer than other dress styles, but very comfortable since it's loose-fitting. Lil Pumpkin said that she felt like she was a princess in it! :)

One of Rorybird's more sophisticated styles, the Pink Damask Tunic Party Dress with white trim is fast becoming one of Lil Pumpkin's favorite dresses! She's been wearing it pretty often since we got on hands on this to town, parties and classes.

The broad white trim accents the contoured and sleek neckline, while the fabric is so breathable, making it comfortable even in our tropical weather.

Lil Pumpkin doesn't have many green options in her wardrobe and we were glad to add the lightweight Green Seersucker Party Dress in.

It's easy to wash, and has an interesting crumpled texture which kinda means not much ironing is required hahaha...  perfect for me because I hate ironing :P The pink zigzag at the top and delicate trim along the bottom also adds sweet details.

Other than dresses for the girls, there are also separate top and bottom options. There are so many ways to mix and match this White Top with Green Seersucker Trim, but we like it best with the Green Tie Seersucker Shorts for a coordinated look.  The green seersucker straps {same material as the dress above} add a stylish touch, and the empire waistline gives the top a sophisticated silhouette.

However, I did find it a little thin though, especially under the sunlight, and would have preferred it better if it had an inner lining.

The elastic waistband of the short ensures comfort on-the-go and the side ties allow for a loose adjustable fit on the legs, and opportunity for tying cute little bows~

I must admit that their shop collection is rather small at the moment, since they just launched about 2 months ago. I'm excited to see what they will bring in the coming months as I heard they will be adding in junk boats, koi fish, and other beautiful designs that remind us of Asia. They also have plans to increase their clothing line to size 10 for the older children, and add more styles for the boys since it is so hard to find cute clothes for them in general.

I think their designs will appeal to a lot of mums in Singapore, especially since so many of us love to bring our kids for outdoor play, and Rorybird's clothes are all created with the Singapore climate and lifestyle in mind. What I also love from their collection is that the kids will be dressed simply... as kids. Their clothes accurately reflect the youthfulness, innocence and exuberance of the young ones, without making them out to look like small adults. Simple, fuss-free and classic.

Do note that because most of the clothes are loose-fitting for a comfy & relaxed style, you won't actually need to buy one size up as most of us tend to do :P Free international shipping and monogramming are available. If you want to see the actual products before buying, they will also be having pop-up stalls at Sentosa Picotin on 27 Aug 2014 and Eton House International on 30 Aug 2014.

Promo: For all Rorybird children's clothes, quote "rorybird10" for 10% discount. Valid until 15 Aug 2014 only.

I always liked BabyLegs because they go with many of the cute outfits, protect their little legs, and can be used as arm warmers when they get older. My boys still use their bone ones at Halloween times with a short sleeved Halloween t-shirt.

Kids apparel should be lightweight so their movement are not hindered, and they are kept dry and comfortable throughout the day.

I like to chose clothes that allow for plenty of movement so active play is easy and comfortable. Nice bold colors are good too.

I don't have a very unique tip, just to remember that they should wear clothes they can play and run around in, but that doesn't mean that they should wear ugly or worn out sruff, cause they learn how to present themselves from a very young age.
