Australia 2014 | The Glorious Gold Coast Beach

We're back from our amazing time in Gold Coast, Australia and I'm really missing it so. The beach, the sun, the markets, the theme parks, the shopping.. have I mentioned the beach already? Yes, definitely the beach with the azure blue waters and soft golden sand.

It was simply breath-taking and I loved that our accommodation was just minutes away and we had a fantastic view of Surfers Paradise the entire time we were there.

Waking up to the ocean waves every morning was simply bliss. Every time I saw this with my family, I felt so immensely happy and blessed.

To be honest, I wasn't always a beach person. There was a period of time {somewhere between swimming competitively and becoming a mum} when I dreaded getting a tan and wear sunblock religiously, stay indoors if it was too sunny, carry a 日傘 {sun umbrella, higasa} and sometimes even wear summer gloves. Yes, gloves to protect my hands from getting a tan. I kept pretty fair and liked it.

But then Lil Pumpkin came along and I somehow felt it wasn't fair to deprive her from enjoying nature and the sun, just because I didn't like to.

So I kinda "forced" myself to just let go and get into more outdoor activities again. And then I started to like going to the beach and swimming outdoors more again.. while wearing sunblock, of course!

No regrets as how can I deprive myself from fully immersing in such beautiful places too? A beach is certainly more glorious in the day time! Anyway, the boy likes me a little more tanned too haha.. he says I look more "sporty" and healthier this way :P

Lil Pumpkin really loves playing at the beach {even in the cold water!!!}... but gets a bit irritated when the icky sand sticks to her footwear. Luckily I brought along our Holster jellies that are easy to wash and clean.

I was extremely delighted when Lil Pumpkin was finally big enough to wear Holster jelly sandals last year. She had her first pair of St Tropez in Opal and since then I've also got her Masquerades in Rasberry and in Pewter to match mine.

When traveling, Holsters are are my usual footwear essentials. They are light {more allowance for shopping hahaha}, compact, waterproof, versatile from dawn to dusk and usually dressy enough for smart casual events. Recently we've gotten more matchy-matchy mother-daughter Holster jellies which is just perfect for our beach getaway!

Lil Pumpkin calls our Getaway Jelly Flats in White our "Elsa" slippers. Probably because they remind her of snow and glittery snowflakes :P Since they are neutral white, they are very easy to match other outfits and I love their clean, sleek look. We don't have any Holsters in white actually, so this was a first.

The cutting for this design is on the smaller side so I actually had to get 2 sizes up for it to fit us comfortably! I'm wearing size 10 for the Getaways, but I usually wear size 8 for my other Holsters.

Love the details of the elegant jewels that make it more dressy than a usual pair of slip-ons! The kids version has silver insoles for with a beautiful mix of jewels and delicate embellishments, just like the adult version.

One of my favourite Holster designs because of the flexible woven rope design, we also brought along our new matchy-matchy pair from St Tropez Jewel in Coral Pink, one of their latest colours. The popular plaited rope detail remains and but the updated version now features a satin-finish coloured jewel perfectly matching the colour of each sandal. Very chic and comfy.

I was quite bummed that they don't have the opal St Tropez in adult size so that I could get a matching pair with Lil Pumpkin when I got her a kiddy pair, but I'm glad that we now have one in this colour. Yay! :)

Oh, if you want to get the best view of the entire Gold Coast beach, and the rest of  the city and lush hinterland region for that matter, you must head to SkyPoint Australia.

At 230m into the sky, it's located on top of the iconic Q1 Building, one of the world's tallest residential towers in Gold Coast and offers spectacular 360 degree views from the surf to the hinterland and beyond.

It is also Australia's only beachside observation deck. There's no time limit on how long you can spend up there :)

We went just in time to catch the sunset and the view was amazing.

While you're there, you can also try SkyPoint Climb, Australia's highest external building climb up Q1 Building. You can choose from day climbs, twilight climbs or dine and climb packages with Seventy7 Café & Bar, the restaurant at the observation deck.

We heard that the food there is delicious, but since we wanted to go to Surfers Paradise night market, we decided to give it a miss. Next time then!! :)

If you're interested to get your own Holsters to fulfill your beach wanderlust dreams {they always put me in a good holiday mood when I wear them!}, you can get them from Not Too Big at Forum. I get them from there as they have a wide variety and sometimes, really awesome deals.

They also sell other kids brands like Joules, which her pretty floral yellow dress she's wearing in these pictures is from.

I know I haven't been too consistent in updating my travel posts {sorry!} but I definitely will be writing more on our Gold Coast travels in the coming weeks while my memory is still fresh, so stay tuned! xox

That looks like an amazing place to be. I love the beach, and sunshine.

Sometimes in the months of winter I get a little down because I miss the sun.

I live so far from the beach. I live in the middle of the US. I used to live in Georgia right by the beach, but didn't have a car. I wish I did. I would have gone every single weekend.

Glad you enjoyed your post Problogger break in my hometown of the Gold Coast Sakura - a tan suits you and really the sun isn't too harsh at this time of year. Sometimes I forget how lucky we are to live in this place and to have such great beaches.

It's been years since I've been to the gold coast, but now you have me wanting to go!
My sister lives there, so I should go and visit really. But we have some gorgeous beaches around here, so I'll soak them up for the time being.

There are so many beaches that could top Gold Coast when it comes to the sun and sand, but I think what makes it stand out is the vibe it brings. The people who visit it and the markets just make Gold Coast more enjoyable to residents and tourists. And also, not to forget, the activities one can do – surfing!

Hi ! I am heading to Gold Coast in September and I am interested to stay in The Shore Apartment but there is no air-conditional in the room. May I know is it still cool without aircond in September ? :)

Ai Sakura said...

Michelle: Yes it was when we were there. At night we needed jackets, sometimes during the day too.

Michelle said...

Thanks for replying ! So you went there in September as well ?

I think every visitor to Gold Coast would definitely remember its beaches the most. However, there are indeed many more attractions than just that. Some people are so captivated by their experience that they just decided they should pack their things into mobile pods and make their stay there permanent. Who wouldn't if the place is really stunning?
