Hong Kong 2013 | Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique Princesss Makeover, Hong Kong Disneyland

As part of our Sparkling Christmas trip to Hong Kong Disneyland {HKDL}, Lil Pumpkin had the opportunity to be transformed into one of the Disney Princesses! It was actually kept a secret from her until the make-over time came *grins*

Her magical experience took place at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique inside Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel. The boutique is exactly like a beauty salon for little girls to dress-up as one of their favourite Disney Princesses, complete with everything from Princess costumes, shimmering make-up, hair styling, finger nail polishing and even dazzling accessories.

I knew Lil Pumpkin would have wanted to be Ariel but they don't have that costume available!! Oh what a surprise! I would have expected Ariel to be one of the most popular choices for a princess make-over. But anyway, you have to inform the boutique in advance which Disney Princess you want to be so one day, I casually showed her a picture of what was currently available {Minnie Mouse, Cinderella, Rapunzel, Tinkerbell, Snow White, Belle & Sleeping Beauty} and asked her to choose her fave from that. She chose Princess Rapunzel.

I'm thinking it's because of the long, blonde hair hahaha.

On the day itself, we had a morning buffet breakfast at the Enchanted Restaurant, which is just across from the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique. The Enchanted Restaurant is where Mickey Mouse and friends come to your table to say hi and take photos with you, so I highly recommend that you do that as well if you're having a staycation at HKDL because you don't have to queue for photo ops! Plus the food is pretty awesome.

After breakfast, we brought Lil Pumpkin to the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique and when she realised what was happening, she was so happy and excited! :) Priceless! It's a great feeling as a parent when you realise that you helped to make you child's dreams come true. I was sooooo ecstatic for her that I felt pretty emotional... might have dropped a tear or two as well :P

She put on her Princess Rapunzel dress {size M} before she was helped onto one of the comfy boutique chairs to have her make-up, hair and nails done by the Fairy Godmothers-in-Training. Lil Pumpkin absolutely loved the pampering!

The make-up isn't like those you see in "Toddlers in Tiaras", but very subtle and sweet... fitting for a young girl who doesn't need much to make her look beautiful.

The whole process took about 40 minutes, and the whole time, the mirror was covered so that Lil Pumpkin couldn't peek to see her transformation. Makes the revealing more dramatic I guess.

Since there were only 2 boutique photographers and lots of little Princesses, we had to wait about 15 minutes before Lil Pumpkin could see her transformation because they wanted to take a shot of her seeing herself as a Disney Princess for the first time. That was about when she got restless since she already waited patiently for 40 minutes to get ready. I knew it was going downhill from there. When working with Lil Pumpkin, you have to be quick and catch her in the moment.

It's like that with a lot of kids I guess. Once they lose interest or get fidgety, don't expect them to be still and pose nicely for anything... which is quite a bummer because after the transformation, there's a photo session at Bibbidi Bobbity Boutique to capture her beautiful Princess make-over and keep as a memento of this truly enchanting experience.

As expected, Lil Pumpkin wasn't in the mood to take photos anymore. The photographers were very encouraging though and tried many ways to get her to smile and pose for the camera like getting her to play with some props, with the other little Princesses, and giving her stickers {seriously, I think Disneyland staff carry stickers with them all the time! Lil Pumpkin collected so many from our HKDL trip haha}. After a while, she warmed up again and let her playful nature shine through the camera. Thank goodness! The whole photoshoot session took about 20 minutes. The photographer will take family shots, as well as individual shots of the girls.

Overall, I think if your daughters are into Disney Princesses, they should have this magical experience at least once during their childhood. Lil Pumpkin still talks about it sometimes, and wants to wear her Princess Rapunzel costume ever so often. Yup, as part of the package we had, Lil Pumpkin got to keep her Princess costume and accessories :) These are the two packages you can book for:

Crown Package {HK$650} - choose this if you already have your own costume
* hair styling with designated crown
* shimmering make up
* finger nail polishing
* Princess sash
* 8"x10" photo with premium photo folder

Castle Package {HK$1,380}
* hair styling with designated crown
* shimmering make up
* finger nail polishing
* Princess/ Minnie Costume, sash and designated accessories
* 8"x10" photo with premium photo folder

After it was all done, we hopped on the free shuttle to the theme park {about 10 mins away} and Lil Pumpkin got to meet with a real Disney Princess for the first time! :) How special! Princess Aurora is really how I would imagine her to be in real-life...

If you do go for the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique Princess Makeover, remember to share photos with us on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram! :)

Hong Kong 2013 | Sparkling Family Christmas in HK Disneyland

Hong Kong Disneyland's Sparking Christmas is taking place now until 5 Jan 2014. Our family spent a memorable 3D2N there celebrating an early festive Christmas with Mickey and friends :) It was our first time in HKDL, as well as Lil Pumpkin's first time in Hong Kong!

Once you step into the theme park, you can instantly feel the Christmas atmosphere. All the storefronts are dressed with festive garlands, lights and ornaments... and a grand Christmas tree greets you right at the front of Main Street, U.S.A.

All the Disney characters are dressed in their new Christmas outfits and I'm so glad that we managed to take lots of family shots with...

Or of them haha! Here's Duffy the Disney Bear in his Christmas suit :) If you're not that familiar with him, don't worry as he only became very famous in recent years. As the story goes, Minnie Mouse created Duffy for Mickey Mouse as he was packing for a long voyage at sea. Duffy's one of the unique Disney characters in that he was not first featured in any Disney movie or television show until he made his television debut in the 2010 Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade.

We queued up about an hour just to meet and greet Mickey and Minnie Mouse! So crazy, I know but I feel that it's so worth it when you see the smile on Lil Pumpkin's face :) She was absolutely delighted to hug and hang out with all the Disney stars!

Mickey and Minnie are definitely the most popular characters to take photos with, as the queue for the rest of the characters is just about 20 minutes. Mickey and Minnie are situated at Town Square so I suggest if you want to meet them, that's the first place you should go when you enter the park before it gets too crowded.  For meet-and-greets, you can use your own camera and/or the park photographers' camera to take the photos for you. They are very gracious and usually allow you to take more than one shot e.g. just the children themselves and then a whole family shot.

Highly excited Christmas eleves were roaming along Main Street, U.S.A. spreading the holiday merriment and taking photos with guests too! I wonder how they keep their energy up all day haha

We loved the Christmas marching band performing heartwarming Christmas tunes throughout the day. Lil Pumpkin and the boy had the opportunity to be "conductors" and lead them for one of the songs too! Such a nice treat!

When night fell, we got to enjoy the dazzling Christmas illumination where Santa Goofy, Mickey and Minnie arrived on their elegant sleigh and sang Christmas songs.

You can also catch sight of a majestic procession of dancers holding large luminous snowflakes...

Before the whole of Main Street, U.S.A. starts snowing!!! It's pretty chilly in Hong Kong at night now so it really suited the whole festive atmosphere.

The Christmas tree illumination occurs about 6.45pm daily and the whole Main Street gets really packed. This is the time to go for the popular rides though as the queues will be shorter :P

About 8pm and 9pm, it's the famous Disneyland fireworks time!!! Absolutely breath-taking and it lasts for a good 20 minutes or so. Lil Pumpkin really loved this part of the night!

One of the new features you should look out for during a trip this period is the all-new Christmas special Puppets in the Park. Enchanting stories are being told at the new Toy Story Land, Grizzly Gulch and Mystic Point every day this Christmas. Kids can immerse themselves in the "Let's Tell a Toy Story" adventures at Toy Story Land by volunteering to help tell the stories of Woody, Jessie and Buzz Lightyear with fun props. In addition to listening to the heartwarming story of "The Winter Wish" at Grizzly Gulch {above}, visitors can also learn about the fascinating "Adventures of Lord Henry" at Mystic Point with a shadow puppet show performed by a S.E.A {Indonesian??} puppetry troupe.

All the puppet shows are in Cantonese though so for us that didn't understand the language, it was hard to truly appreciate the stories. However, they were still very entertaining to watch. Each puppet show lasts for about 15 minutes.

Only for this Christmas season as well, there's the new Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Daisy Christmas sculpture in front of Sleeping Beauty's Castle that makes for a beautiful photo background.

There are special Christmas dishes at HKDL now and this Seared Scallops with Mango Salad and Coca-Cola Molecues is part of the Main Street Corner Cafe Coca-Cola Christmas Menu {HK$288/set}. Yes, Coca-Cola is added to all the dishes in this set!!

The boy and I had the Braised Beef Cheek with Coca-Cola BBQ Sauce on Mashed Potatoes & Roasted Root Vegetables. It was very tender and look at that cute reindeer beetroot cutting!

Lil Pumpkin had the Poached Sole & Salmon Fillet in Coca-Cola Velouté Vegetable Fettucine. She couldn't finish the whole dish and didn't really like the vegetable fettucine. I enjoyed it though as it was kinda crunchy.

Dessert was Coca-Cola Crème Brûlée with Fresh Berries. The Coca-Cola taste is really strong with this one and it was quite exotic.

Hong Kong 2013 | What to Buy in Disneyland + My Shopping Haul + {Giveaway}

We're back from our early Christmas family getaway to Hong Kong Disneyland {HKDL}!! It was truly a wonderful trip and we got to experience the whole magical journey from staying at Disneyland Hollywood Hotel, to eating breakfast with the Disney Stars at Enchanted Garden, exploring the new theme lands {Mystic Point, Toy Storyland & Grizzly Gulch} and also having Lil Pumpkin transformed into one of the Disney Princesses at Bibidi Bobidi Boutique!

As usual, I'll need some time to sort through all the photos and information but first, I'd like to share some of the souvenirs that we brought back in case you want to head to HKDL for Christmas and grab some gifts :)

Got some good feedback from my Northern Territory shopping haul vlog so thought I'd do this again. Please excuse my amateur skills at vlogging :P All done in one take with no script heh. In addition to the items shown below, have a look at the vlog to get some ideas on gifts you can bring back home for your family and friends. Plus, you'll see the actual exclusive HKDL merchandise that I'll be giving away on the blog {more details below}!! If the video isn't working, see it on Youtube here.

As mentioned in the video, HKDL is celebrating their 8th Anniversary this year and there's a whole range of limited edition merchandise to celebrate their special occasion. Eight is a lucky number to the Chinese people as it means prosperity and wealth. HKDL hopes that this range will bring luck, joy and treasured memories to all of their guests who have the chance to visit Hong Kong Disneyland this year.

Love love love the home-ware range! I bought the cookie cutters from our last visit to Hong Kong.

You can never have too many tumblers for the kids.. Lil Pumpkin usually changes hers after about a year of use as it gets broken, too dirty or.. lost *sigh*

Cookies are always a popular choice for souvenirs. Heaps of tin cans and cookie designs of your favourite Disney characters to choose from! This is a Disney Princess special cookie tin to look like a little clutch bag with a "pearls" strap.

For all you craft-loving people, there are unique wooden stamps for sale. I didn't spot any washi tapes at HKDL though.

Super cute caps and Mickey / Minnie ears!! Definitely a must-buy to wear at the Disneyland theme parks!

Since it's their Christmas holiday season, you can get scarfs and winter wear too :)

Anyway, stay tuned for my upcoming travel posts for more details on the must-sees and must-dos in Hong Kong Disneyland!
