Agape Babies: One-Stop Shop for Mums & Bubs + {Promo Code}

Hands-up if you like to shop online.

Yeah, my both hands are up too. I mean, most of the times you can buy things that are cheaper than what you'd find in a physical store, especially since you can easily browse through different websites to find the best price.

Also, it's so convenient since you can even shop in your pjs haha. Especially when you're a mum and the only free-time you have to shop is at night when the house is quiet and kids are asleep.. tell me how many physical stores in Singapore {other than Mustafa??} are open at 2am in the morning?!

Plus, you don't have to deal with crowded shopping malls. Urgh.

As much as possible, I'd try to shop from local online shops but sometimes the products I'm looking for can't be found locally {or are much too overpriced} and I have to ship them in from overseas.

But then, it is a pain in the a** when it seems like you have to wait like what seems like FOREVER for your overseas package to arrive!!! #thestruggleisreal

And that's why I'm absolutely pleased as Punch when I recently ordered at Singapore-based Agape Babies, and the whole package was efficiently delivered to me the next morning. Seriously. Blown. Away.

The super-duper fast courier delivery isn't just the only thing I like about Agape Babies.

They are also known to have one of the widest selection of goods for mums-to-be, mums, and children online as they are home to over 250 brands and 6000 products. From diapers, milk, skincare, food to toys, books, play mats & clothing.. almost everything you need for family life can be found here.

Agape Babies is the authorised retailer for many premium baby brands such as 3M, Philips, BABYBJÖRN, Organic Harvest, Bellamy, Trunki, Ergobaby etc. It really is a one-stop shop for mums and bubs!!

Despite the wide variety of items, shopping on their website is a breeze as everything is neatly categorised with clear product information and pictures. It's mobile-optimised as well so you can still easily navigate the site and shop conveniently using your smartphone on-the-go too.

That's great because I actually like to just chill in bed and shop online instead of sitting in front of my computer at my desk.. I've enough of that at work haha.

Yup, they also sell the stylish and functional Jujube diaper bags that's oh-so-popular with mums nowadays.

I can see why so many of my mummy friends carry it though... it has so many pockets to organise the baby stuff, and the prints are can be so cute / beautiful that they hardly seem like a typical frumpy "diaper bag" but rather a pre-mama glamourous bag to bring out and about!

If you have never checked them out before, now is a good time as they are currently having their Great Singapore Sale {GSS} so over 800 products are on discount.

I saw some pretty amazing deals and picked out some items for myself, sister, Lil J and Lil Pumpkin below.

The Unicorn Skip & Hop lunch bag is mine by the way for me to bring my obentos to work. Because, unicorns (*^▽^*) Quite excited to have regular family board games nights and play some of my fave childhood games like Scrabble & LIFE with Lil Pumpkin but we'll probably start that after our home renovation project heh.

Throughout the year, Agape Babies also has exclusive Weekly Deals every Wednesday and first-time customers also get S$10 or 10% off their first order and a free gift of either a Mustela Trial Kit {worth S$10} or a Bellamy Milk 400g tin {worth S$25.95}.

Happy shopping and let me know if you find something interesting there that I might have missed!! xox

Promo: Quote "aisakura5%" for 5% OFF purchases at Agape Babies. These exclude sale category items, diapers, milk, breast pumps and Jujube products. Valid until Friday, 19 Aug 2016 only. Free courier delivery to local addresses for orders above S$80 and overseas shipping available.

P.S. Next-morning delivery is only for those orders made before 2pm the day before. If you like, you can also self-collect from Newton, Sengkang or Old Airport Road. Since Newton is where their main warehouse is, you can actually drop by on the day itself to collect!!

Prepping for P1: 25 Tips & Advice from the School

We went for Lil Pumpkin's P1 school orientation last weekend and I really found it soooo helpful in helping us prep for her P1 journey in her new school. P1 orientations are usually in the last 2 weeks of November, some during weekdays and some on Saturdays like us.

If you have a kid that's going to P1, I strongly suggest that you don't miss their orientations! School nowadays is vastly different from when we were in the system. There are some administrative work to be done, books/ uniforms to purchase and it's a good opportunity for the kids {and parents!} to get to know their new teachers, classmates and school.

Lil Pumpkin's new school gave out very handy tips and advice to help the children fit into the school culture. I've listed some of the general ones below for my own memory, and although not all may apply to you, hopefully some might be helpful in enabling your kid to enjoy her new school life, or at least encourage you to find out the answers to some of these topics if they weren't covered during your orientation

*****

Personal Items

1. Purses, textbooks, files, water-bottles, lunchboxes etc. must have the your kid's name and class written on them with a permanent ink marker or labeled with stickers. This will enable the school to trace the owners should the items be found in common areas.

2. Help the school to inculcate the values of responsibility and thrift in the children. Please help your kid to look for lost items at the Lost & Found area and not supply them with new items too quickly.

Transport

3. P1 pupils tend to get confused when parents change their plans and do not adhere to regular transport arrangement. If your kid is taking the school bus home, don't take them home even if you are free, at least for the first 3 months.

4. If there is an urgent need to take your kid home yourself, remember to inform the bus driver so that other children do not have to be inconvenienced while the bus driver looks for your kid.

5. Advise your kid on how you can be reached from school if they miss the bus. Update your contact numbers in her school diary and alert her teachers as well.

Canteen and Food

6. P1 pupils should not buy food with hot soup, until they are more confident of themselves.

7. Kids should drink plenty of plain water. Do not put sweet drinks in your kid's water bottle.

8. Encourage healthy eating in your kid. Refrain from packing potato crisps / crackers in their lunch boxes and pack a fruit or give them extra pocket money to purchase a piece of fruit.

9. Make sure the kids eat a proper breakfast before school starts.

Health

10. All immunisation booster doses should be finished before the kid starts school in January. Check the health booklet for confirmation.

11. Pupils who are sick should not attend school. If they are taken ill in school, he/she will be taken to the sick bay. The school staff will contact one of the parents to take the child to the doctor. If anyone else is picking the child up, they need to register at the General Office.

12. Schools cannot administer any medication, so all necessary medication should be placed in the kid's bag. Emergency medication should be in a pouch to be carried at all times. Train the kid on how to use or administer the medication.

13. In an emergency, the school will immediately send for an ambulance and will not wait to contact the parent. A school staff will accompany the child to the hospital and the parent will be informed to meet them there.

Hygiene

14. Sometimes the kids may dirty themselves and the toilet while doing their business. They should inform the teacher to help them get a change of uniforms and to clean the toilet for the next user. Teach them to understand that there is no shame to be in need of help.

School Bags

15. Keep bags light. Parents can supervise the pupils in packing of their school bags daily but let them do it themselves.

16. When you buy the bags, water-bottles, pencil boxes etc., consider the weight of these items. Water-bottles can be brought to school empty and filled up at the school water-coolers.

17. Trolley bags and big bags are not encouraged. Not only are they heavy, they are dangerous to carry up and down the stairs.

18. Encourage your kid to pack in a light paperback book for reading during spare pockets of time.

At Home

19. Set up a study area in their bedrooms or in an area away from distractions e.g. TV. This is where all books, stationery, time-tables, school calendar should be kept so that the kids can quickly pack their belongings every day in preparation for school the next day. Help them to get into the habit of doing work here and be responsible for their own school day.

20. Do not keep computers and laptops in their private study area, but in common areas so that you can supervise the sites they visit.

21. Help them get excited for school by trying out the uniforms often, and don't tell them scare stories about your own school days. Try not to transfer your own fears and anxiety onto the kids.

22. Let your kids learn how to make friends and deal with friendship issues. At the same time, teach your kids on how to deal with bullies. If you suspect there is bullying going on in school, inform the teacher and work with the school. Do not take things into your own hands and approach any child in a threatening manner.

23. Train your kids to finish food in 20 minutes by timing them. They may want to play during recess but let them understand that they must finish the food first {with proper chewing} before playing with their friends.

24. At least one week before school starts, train your kids going to bed and getting up at a fixed time. Let them practice their morning routine so that they know exactly what to do when school starts, even if you're not around.

25. As much as possible, teach them how to handle money and how to buy things on their own. If you forget to give your kid pocket money, tell them to approach her class teacher and to remember to inform you about this so that the amount can be returned promptly to the teacher.

Prepping for P1: School Orientation Experience

Last Saturday, we went down to my alma mater for Lil Pumpkin's Primary 1 school orientation!! It was all very exciting and informational. Everything ran smoothly like a well-oiled machine and it was hardly as time-consuming and chaotic as I thought it might be.

Orientation was supposed to be from 9 - 11.30am and we reached there about 8.45am. A crowd was already forming and as soon as we registered Lil Pumpkin, she was whisked away by some teachers to join the other p1-to-be kids for their own school tour and program to get to know the teachers and new classmates. I'm glad that we'd prepped Lil Pumpkin to give a mini self-intro of herself hehe.

Having the little ones away was a fantastic arrangement so that the parents didn't have to worry about tending to them and could fully concentrate on the school briefing on things to take note for the first few weeks of school, transport / traffic arrangements, parent volunteering, Co-Curricular Activities {CCAs} etc. as well as chat with other parents.

It was very heartwarming to hear the school principal talk about my alma mater's mission and vision to mould the little girls into women of substance and stature in a very complex world susceptible to unpredictable change. Beyond academic achievements, the school focuses on giving a holistic education and I'm glad that throughout all these years, every single school teacher and staff has kept to that. I noticed that quite a few of my old teachers were still around too!

This is the kind of education I want Lil Pumpkin to enjoy and I can't wait for her to join this sisterhood and have her own meaningful schooling experience in my alma mater *beams*

After the briefing we had a chance to visit Lil Pumpkin's new classroom and finish up some administrative tasks.

I love that her new classroom is so spacious and airy! When I showed this photo to some of my old school friends, they asked if these were the same tables and chairs we used as kids haha. I don't think so??! I mean, they are still in pretty good condition so I guess they must be relatively new (´ω`)ノ

We were informed by her teachers that the kids will be keeping most of their books in class {MUST. LABEL. EVERYTHING.} so that they don't have to worry about forgetting books and lug them to school and back home. That's a real luxury we didn't have during my time!

With textbooks kept in class, I wondered about the need for revision and reading ahead to prep for new study topics but I guess in P1 they don't have to?? We'll see how the system goes when school starts. Anyway I'm glad that Lil Pumpkin doesn't need to carry a heavy load to school each day too. Big schoolbags are a thing of the past now! #phew

While I was filling up some forms, the boy went to get the required school books and supplies to save us some time.

To facilitate the huge crowd, her school bookshop operated from a classroom that day and other than the things in the bookl ist, they sold assessment books, ergonomic school bags, pens, files, and even shoes!

The bookshop is managed by Pacific Bookstores so if your school is by this same provider, don't worry if you don't have the schoolbags or any school supplies yet. You can get them during orientation. It was a real breeze getting everything on the book list because they are all prepacked into a box! The boy told me that all you have to do is queue to pay for the box. After that, you just move on to another counter to either remove things you don't need, or add on other supplies you want and get back / make up the monetary difference.

They also make name stamps and name stickers for the kids!! So convenient and these are pretty much a must-have nowadays as mentioned by other parents in my 20 Tips for Kids Entering P1 list.

The name stamps start from S$5 and name stickers from S$2 for 24 pieces. The stickers may not be as well-made or lasting as those from Stickerkid or Bright Star Kids, but they are definitely wayyyy cheaper and have a wider range of Disney character prints.

The school uniform vendors were set up in the canteen. They accepted card and cash payment.

We'd already bought Lil Pumpkin's school uniforms from Bibi & Baba earlier this month so didn't have to worry about that but if you do need to get them during orientation, I suggest waiting for about an hour after the orientation ends so that there's less of a crowd and you can get your kids to try on the uniforms for sizes in relative peace.

Since it was the weekend, the main food stalls weren't open but the snacks and drink stalls were. We let Lil Pumpkin buy her own food from the stalls by herself (♥◕ฺ∀◕ฺ)

I like that all the snacks and drinks had prices clearly marked out. Took the time to check out the prices at the rest of the main food stalls too. Wow prices have certainly increased since my time when noodles only cost S$0.50/bowl and S$0.20 could get me a packet of Chickadees or Mamee snack haha.

Food prices for main meals in her canteen ranges from S$0.80 - S$1.50, drinks are S$0.50 - S$1.30 and fruits are S$0.30 - S$0.50. The school recommends giving the kid S$2/day if they are buying food from school during recess.

For the first 2 weeks, there will be a P5 buddy to help guide the P1 kids in the canteen system. We'd encourage her to buy food then to get some practice with a mentor while she can but after that, I intend to prepare an obento {see over 50 obento ideas here} for her as her recess is only 30 mins long and at least for the first part of the year, she probably won't be used to the system and have enough time to eat after going to the toilet, queuing, finding a seat to eat etc. She'd still have pocket money though just in case she does want to buy food.

However when I asked her, she said she preferred if I packed food for her too.... more time for her to eat fast and play with friends! (●→‿ฺ←●)

This is the big "goodie box" of her P1 books for both semester 1 & 2, and supplies. The cost might differ from school to school based on what's in the book list, but all in we spent about S$200 because we bought extra exercise books too. If you don't want to buy during orientation and carry it home, you can also order online from Pacific Bookstores website and have it delivered.

The site is usually ready in early November, which is before most P1 school orientation dates. If you know that they are your kids' school bookshop operator, you can check their website for the book list and need not wait for the school to give it to you. But please confirm with the school first if you can do this in case there's any changes!

I made sure the boy opened up to check that each and every book that was in the booklist was properly included haha.

It might be cheaper? to get her art and stationery supplies required in the book list outside, but we bought them all together for convenience sake since they were all already pre-packed.

Oh the P1-to-be kids were also given a lovely book published by the Ministry of Education {MOE} filled with tips and fun activities to prep them for their new journey ahead! So so helpful and something I know that she'd love to work on for the rest of the holidays ♥

I feel much more prepared now for her P1 journey after attending the school orientation. Lil Pumpkin, on the other hand, is even more excited to start school and can't wait for January to come!! I hope her enthusiasm for school lasts for a long, long time haha.

Let me know how your P1 orientation experience went too! ( ^_^)/

Christmas 2014 | 20 Kids Toys & Accessories X'mas Gift Ideas... ON SALE! + {Promo}

Last year I wrote a list on 10 Kids Toys & Accessories Christmas Gift Ideas On SALE for the parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles who weren't able to get their Christmas presents until the last minute. This year, I'm going to give you another list.. but one month in advance so that you have PLENTY of time to prepare, and not get all jittery! I've also included not just 10, but 20 discounted toys and accessories that caught my eye as gift ideas for your kids because as usual, I reckon that if you can get something great at a cheaper price, why not? :)

And oh, don't forget to get your promo codes for more discounts at the end of the post!

This year's list is from Agape Babies and The Sunshine Kids online departmental store. A relatively new concept in Asia, this means that customers can shop between both stores and check-out in 1 shopping cart. So convenient and such a time-saver since I don't have to go to various sites to purchase different items. Also, since they don't have a physical store, they pass on these cost savings to the customers and I see that some of the items sold there are cheaper than those found in brick-and-mortar stores like Takashimaya or Isetan.

We got some items from them for Lil Pumpkin, my friends & their kids as well and was really amazed at how fast they delivered! We ordered late on Friday night, the next morning we received an email that the items were sent out.. and we received them on Saturday evening all packed securely in one box. ZOMGGG! I didn't even realise they work the weekends and was expecting it just a week later haha.

Agape Babies currently carries over 150 premium brands and retails over 3000 products {!!!} in store for mums and bubs. These include baby necessities like diapers & milk formula, playmats, toys, English & Chinese books, bags and even strollers. At The Sunshine kids, they specialise in party dresses from their very own apparel line {going to add a casual line soon}, shoes from Pediped & Shupeas and other kids accessories.

The shops offer free courier delivery to Singapore addresses with S$80 spent and a free gift with every S$120 purchase. Overseas delivery and gift cards are available.

There's really a lot to choose from both stores so I've narrowed my gift ideas list down to the sale sections in Agape Babies and The Sunshine Kids. The kids get a meaningful gift from the parents while the parents get to save money? Win-win situation :)

1. Thermos Hello Kitty FUNtainer Food Jar 10oz {S$29.90, U.P. S$49.90}

For little girls: Dreamy Tulle Dress in Coral Pink + {Promo Code}

Lil Pumpkin has this sweet ballerina tutu dress we got when she was a young toddler. She loves it to bits and I'm pretty sure if she could wear it every day, she would! It fits only up to size 2 years, so you can imagine that it's kinda tight on her now. Looks like a cute chubby pink dumpling when she wears it hahahah

However, even up to now, she'd still try to sneak it in whenever we ask her what she wants to wear for the day! Loyalty, I tell ya.

I tried looking for other tutu dresses in bigger sizes but didn't really see any I fancy. Glad to have discovered the Dreamy Tulle Dress in Coral Pink from Le Petit Society though!

It still has that whimsical, girly flair but is more sophisticated than a ballerina dress. I love the little details like the fuschia bow, puffy skirt and lightness of the material. Wonderful for our hot weather! Last week for a family dinner I matched it with her pair of black boots from Northern Territory {see my shopping haul vlog here} plus one of my old headbands and I think she looks like a little Korean star hehe

This might be her new favourite dress xox

Le Petit Society also sells matching patent leather tote bags with a polka dot cotton lining for mums and bubs! OMG! So cute and roomy! I chose them in Lemon Zest Yellow since we don't have bags in this colour and it definitely cheers up any outfit. The bags are also available in Poppy Red, which would make  beautiful Chinese New Year accessories I reckon ;p Hey, it's never too early to plan, right? I already bought my cheongsums for CNY next year haha.

The little girls' version has a drawstring bag attached on the inside to keep things from falling out. It's also perfect for me when I want to travel light and need a smaller bag ;)

Promo Code: Le Petit Society is a HK-based, Singaporean-owned children's apparel and accessories brand. They are fairly new, but have already gained a large following because of their unique and beautifully-designed clothing for newborns to 7 years olds. The online shop offers free shipping within Asia, and above US$150 for countries outside of Asia. Quote "AISAKURA" for 15% discount on all items in their website {except for sales items}. Valid until 31 March 2014.

* Disclosure: Dreamy Tulle Dress & Tote Bags in Lemon Zest Yellow were provided by Le Petite Society for review. All other accessories belong to me. No monetary compensation was received, and all opinions are my own.

Children's Day 2012 | Japanese Linda Linda Backpack + {Giveaway}

Recently, Lil Pumpkin has been carrying around a cute little piggy backpack from MDBambini, an online children's boutique. MDBambini is set up by a fellow mum who has 2 adorable kids of her own. She understands that children love colour and sells lots of vibrant kiddy clothes & accessories at really affordable prices.

The sweet bag is made from soft PVC material. I like that it's waterproof and light enough for everyday use.

Lil Pumpkin named her bag Porky haha.  Like all the Linda Linda backpack from Japan, Porky has a front zip compartment for easy access to all her little knick-knacks, and a main insulated compartment to store the other treasures, books and snacks. It's also big enough for me to include a nappy and extra set of clothes for her to carry when we go out as well.

With adjustable shoulder straps, the backpack's great for kids up to about 7 years old!

To celebrate Children's Day and spread extra joy to our little kiddos, I'm giving away THREE Japanese Linda Linda rucksacks {worth S$12} to my special readers! There are 9 kawaii designs for girls AND boys that you can choose from :) To enter, simply
